Got a chance to buy a pick up on a Q plate but was wondering how much this would devalue it ? Going to look at it today it has been restored but needs tlc ...cheers guys and gals

should I avoid it because of the plate ?
he's looking £3500 .

first question would be, 

 

why is it q plated ? see if he can give a good reason for it .

 

3.5 seems serious money, should be reasonable condtion me think

£3500 if it's been restored properly is a very good price. What do you mean by TLC?

As above though, it depends on the reason it's on a Q plate whether it will devalue it. Generally speaking, it does though.

It was an R .a .f vehicle at one time , but not sure if that had anything to do with it .

As long as it's got a good reason to the Q plate, then I see no reason not to go for it, you could always buy an age related private plate and use that on it, gets rid of the Q plate then :P

except you cant do that. You cant use a private plate on a vehicle which has been given a Q plate

Was an age relayed plate issue for the q plate , it is in need of alot of tlc and has a sunroof which is not great and floor is chequer plated , just not for me , to much work.but thanks for the info :) thewee van is in great con but its 6000 ;)

What you definitely shouldn't do is find a pickup V5 and put it with that. But you wouldn't do that because it's illegal.

I know, because I've looked for one for my Q plater mini (I wanted my daily drive and mini to have similar reg's haha)

In basic terms, a Q plate is given to a vehicle to which the age cannot be determined, this is either because of no documentation or it has been built from a number of donor vehicles.

 

3.5k for a pickup is cheap, but I would expect it to be road worthy, assuming TLC means literally that.
