first question would be,
why is it q plated ? see if he can give a good reason for it .

£3500 if it's been restored properly is a very good price. What do you mean by TLC?
As above though, it depends on the reason it's on a Q plate whether it will devalue it. Generally speaking, it does though.

except you cant do that. You cant use a private plate on a vehicle which has been given a Q plate

What you definitely shouldn't do is find a pickup V5 and put it with that. But you wouldn't do that because it's illegal.

I know, because I've looked for one for my Q plater mini (I wanted my daily drive and mini to have similar reg's haha)

In basic terms, a Q plate is given to a vehicle to which the age cannot be determined, this is either because of no documentation or it has been built from a number of donor vehicles.
3.5k for a pickup is cheap, but I would expect it to be road worthy, assuming TLC means literally that.
