Looking great!

How big was that spider? Mini would of been in a ditch if I saw that spider above my head.

Lovely little mini (wish I had a mk1!) and background story, it'll go well with a modded 1098 in it :)

Thanks! I'm very lucky to have got it. Hopefully it'll go along nicely with the new engine!

It wasn't that big... only 10cm in diameter or so. These ones get bigger than that, but they are not harmful to people. I had one in my other car at night once crawling inside the drivers side window. I thought it would be a good idea to open the window and it would fall out, but instead it fell on my lap!

Mrs timmy201 has kindly donated her old camera to being used in the garage, so hopefully I'll have some better photos, and my phone won't get so dirty and greasy anymore! I put the 202 head back in to soak for another couple of days to get all the rust and scale removed. It looks pretty good now.

This is the "clean" box that I've been storing the cleaned and de-rusted parts. They have a coating of oil on them to try and delay any rust returning
14385627876_342f6ea2f9_o.jpg

A little comparison of the valves of the different heads. The middle set are the 295 oversized ones. The left set are from the 12A1456 head, and the right are from the 202 head. The 295 started out with the same size exhaust valves as the other two... It's funny how little the other intake valves look in there!

14222329997_f0bdf1ce24_o.jpg

The first 998 is in it's own box and I'm trying to fit all it's associated parts in there so I don't get them all mixed up.
14408756875_0bf893d1bc_o.jpg
The second 998 will hopefully clean up pretty well..
14385614926_30843c04b6_o.jpg
The 1098 has got a decent lip on the top of the bores, so it will need a good re-bore before it can get used. It's already at +040, so it would be fine if i went to +100 (which would be 1184cc) or even to 68mm (+140)

I'm always on the lookout for parts from different markets to make my car look a bit different.... US market minis had different coloured rear lamps, and I thought they looked pretty cool.
14516574864_6d579aa98f_c.jpg

Standard is the amber ones.
14517891645_536f05e37b_c.jpg
It took me a while to find anywhere that stocked the red ones and didn't want to charge me a huge amount to get them delivered...

Australian minis have white front lenses, and they have the parking light and the indicator in one. This is a bit silly at night because you can't really see the indicator flashing
14516825742_32cf5ff8b4_c.jpg
I redid the wiring today to run the parking lights through the headlights and I've got a set of amber lenses on there now

I also had a good drive through the countryside for an hour or so, and the car ran great!

Thanks. I'll put them on once I've worked out how to get them to flash a bit brighter. One option is to put red bulbs in the brake half to make the top look orange by comparison. The second option is to use green coloured bulbs in the top half, because apparently a green light shining through a red lense comes out orange.

such a cool story and such a cool car..... like

Thanks!

Special one for you guys from the UK. I was driving along a bumpy road yesterday and I could see something moving out from the sun visor... It is perfectly harmless, but they can be a bit of a surprise when you don't know they're there...

Yeah no thanks. I can deal with them occasionally around the house, but I wouldn't like to keep them as pets..

I worked out the problem with the readings I was getting on the vacuum gauge. Originally I had taken the vacuum from the distributor advance using a T-piece. I worked out that the vacuum advance take off was on the wrong side of the throttle valve, so I wasn't getting manifold pressure, I was getting carby pressure. I bought a manifold adaptor with a vacuum port.

It's easy to install, just remove the carb, and the old spacer and replace it with this one with some new gaskets. The thread on the top stud looked a bit dodgy and it stripped when I went to tighten it up. Luckily the studs are the same as the oil filter, so I was able to borrow one of them from a spare engine to get it finished!
14413649979_941ce24760_c.jpg
It now reads as it should, with idle being at around 20, rather than the 5-8 I was getting before

I went out for a drive in our winter weather... It was a bit chilly in the breeze, but overall a nice day!

I finally got the pair of the lamps so I swapped them over this morning.. They aren't as red as the tail lamps, but they are a very deep orange colour

Thanks! I'm really happy how the rear lights look on there :D

My twin carbs turned up too. From the numbers on them and the needles they would seem to be from an Aussie Cooper S Mk2
14656714695_cec2ed39dd_c.jpg
I also found an old aftermarket manifold on ebay.. It's made by Warneford, who were tuning minis before the Coopers came to Australia.. Here they are mocked up on the head.
