We went up to a swap meet and car show today. Here is the total loot... Two rocker covers, a metal air filter case with the adjustable snorkel (mine is missing the snorkel) and an interesting set of wheels

The test fit proved positive, I'll have to sort out some wheel nuts and centre caps 

 

Glad I got an Aus rocker cover from you.

The two ones above with breathers are the Aussie made ones - they have the MOWOG stamp in the map of Australia 

I want one with the breather like the chrome one on the top left. 
 
Also, I noticed you have two vacuum gauges on the dashboard. Any reason why?

I'm not quite sure yet. They seem to be similar to the Jeff/Aubrey Amos wheels made in Australia and also to the JP wheels made over in Sweden. Either way they are a bit unusual and were cheap as well. From the weight of them I'd have to say they are alloy and they are 4.5 x 10" and offset around +9

Here is a photo of the intake snorkel end fitted. They are designed to rotate to get hot air from near the exhaust during cold winters (not that we get that cold here). It's actually the first one I've ever seen in person, the metal HS4 filter cases can be a bit tricky to find!

So at the swap meet the other day I was looking for an Australian made rocker cover with a breather system on top (Jared had mentioned he wanted one). The guy I bought it off chucked in an extra plain cover for free which turned out to be a Rover item, it still had remnants of the Japanese decal on the top. I've wanted to do a Swiftune style crinkle back cover for a while, but all the Aussie rocker covers I have use a longer oil filler tube which means the chrome oil cap sits up high. 
 
I was going to put the Rover one into a storage box and noticed it had a short fill neck! It turned out to be the perfect candidate for a crinkle black coat. I took the paint off with a wire brush and gave the inside a quick coat of engine black. The crinkle paint always goes on nice and glossy, and takes much longer than you think to crinkle up..

It looked great this morning after it'd crinkled and dried. 

I had to take off the old cover anyway to fix up the cork gasket, it had been leaking pretty bad. It makes me think I should pull out the wiper motor and horn for a similar coat.

Love the chrome cap on the wrinkle painted cover. Would you fit the tags with the rivets on it?

It's too easy, just undo the two nuts that hold on the rocker cover, a quick clean and then paint. There is a very helpful guide here on how to do the crinkle paint. I got the paint from the local Autobarn, you can get a couple of other colours too.

Cheers, I don't think we had the riveted tags on the engines out here. The factory did use "Hot Run Tested" decals, but for this cover I think I'll keep it plain (I don't know how well they'd stick to the crinkle paint either)

I've recently bought a "fresh air" style heater for the car. These were standard on the Aussie automatic cars (Morris Mini-Matic) and optional on the Deluxe models. I thought it'd be nice to have a little bit of heat in the car and having some form of demisting for the front window would be nice too. It should be easy enough to install and adds in some extra cooling capacity through the additional coolant volume and the heater matrix. 

I hadn't really had a close look at one till this one turned up, they are really simple, just a couple of pivoting flaps inside and the heater matrix. The outer case will need a repaint as its a bit scruffy (the heater matrix is removed in these photos)

A quick diagram of how it works.. On the "cool air" setting it directs fresh air from the front of the car into the cabin. The hot air is directed out the side of the unit.

On the "hot air" setting the hot air is directed into the cabin and the fresh air is blocked off. It's very simple and there is no fan to push the air through!

The heater matrix looks to be in good condition. I flushed it through with tap water this afternoon and it came out nice and clear from the beginning, with no chunks or nasty bits coming out. I've left it filled with water overnight to check for leaks. I'm still debating whether to get it cleaned out and pressure tested before installation

It should fit in about here, but the coil and horn will need moving (and maybe some other things) and I need to find or make a lower bracket for the inner panel.

That's a neat addition and it doesn't take up space in the cabin. I suppose you couldn't fit this to a Cooper or Cooper S as they'd have the servo over there.

I'm assuming that that's a 'unique to Australia' item? It's pretty cool - nice buy.
