heres my latest set i built for my car.... not quite finished yet20131027_115301_zps64f8cf5c.jpg

Wow, that does look good, would twin 1.1/2s be a better bet for my 1380 rather than the HIF44 that i have got on it at the moment, when i got it dynoed it pushed 99 bhp at the flywheel .

That I couldn't tell you but I'm sure someone will be along to answer...:0)

They are more or less finished now with stainless heat shield etc

Cheers james

The carbs are silver under the muck ..... Il give you a tip..... Use a brass brush as a wire brush is a little too harsh

So wire brush them then then put them in gunk engine degreaser.

or you could cheat and buy a silver spray paint specially formulated to use on carbs... it comes in silver and bronze.... you can buy this from frost and they also sell it on ebay under carb laquer

you would still need to gunk them first to get rid of oil etc

cheers james

If there is as much corrosion inside the carb suction chambers around the pistons as there is outside they may well be scrap.

It depends on the extent of the corrosion obviously but if you have to remove so much material in cleaning or there is so much pitting that the seal between piston and suction chamber is leaky they will be no use.  Especially in twins where the piston drop times have to be fairly similar across the pair.  A new piston and suction chamber is very expensive and would make it cost more than getting a better pair to start with.

When you assemble them make sure you are using Mini Cooper spec parts rather than Midget or similar so that everything is at the right angle when installed.  Check they aren't Midget carbs to start with as if they are you will have to swap a few parts that will not be included in a normal overhaul kit.
