Wonder what caused the flaking? looked pretty rusty under there  O_O  Hopefully it will be ok now!

Really coming together now though mate.

Ben

Cheers Ben,

It was fine until I first run the engine up to temperature, then the paint went soft and started flaking off. Probably just rubbish paint to be fair, it's only the cheap unbranded engine paint from my local motor factors.

I'm not too worried though Ben, it'll do for the show season. I'm going to drop it back out in the winter and build a bit of a fast road engine, bored out to 1293, head ported and flowed, new cam and a gearbox rebuild etc etc.

Jay.

The attention to detail is unreal on this. Puts a lot of minis to shame. Mine included. Great motivation though to get it right first time round. Well done!

Cheers mate,

Looking forward to getting back on the road and doing a few shows this summer !

Update,

Received my package from Optimise today, here are the contents -

ff70ca3d42d1a707078e443c6142e011_zpsdao3

Decided to do the sun visors first, here's what I started with -

20fc71560b73f1900aa5c5f772c4821f_zpsnadw

Cut the vinyl covers off until I was left with the bare frame -

5f3b27dbeb00810c4d14924c061ccf84_zpsn85z

Fitted the new covers along with the hardboard strengtheners -

75f5447ab909ed7011879160abcb818e_zpsffmx

And then fitted them into the car -

361856423b28b58dac3d6b907b6215a1_zpsyoux

Next we fitted the rear door cards, MPI plastic bin pockets and the burr wooden cappings -

Not the best pictures unfortunately, it's hard to get a decent one due to it being dark in the car and the light coming in through the window sends my camera crazy.

Then it was onto the doors, got most of the trim fitted but still need to get the screws to fit the door pulls and I also need to get the black plastic pieces that go around the door lock. Here they are -

Again, sorry about the quality of the pictures, my camera doesn't do them justice. Should have a new phone soon so the pictures will improve !

That's all the progress for today,

Jay.

Update,

Of sorts...

Life's a bit hectic at the moment so I've not had any time to spare for the Mini unfortunately :(.

That will hopefully be changing soon, I'm putting a list together for Minispares ready for Friday which will contain near enough everything I need to get her finished. I'm planning to have her done ready for the Mini show at Himley Hall next month, but that all depends on how long the garage I had it painted at take to do the cut back and polish. There's also a few areas I'm not overly pleased with so they're going to redo them, not sure how long that will take though.

In other news, I've purchased a new daily. It's a low mileage two owner MG ZR in really nice condition. Here it is next to the Mini -

And on its own -

Anyway, they'll be more progress made on the Mini this weekend so I'll update then :-).

Minis looking great, zr looks sweet, you probably know allready but if you dont, the zr has a k series in which are prone for head gasket failure. Quick engines but not so relaible.

Cheers bud,

We've had a fair share of K-Series powered cars in the family over the years, so I know only too well about the head gasket issue. This ZR has had the head gasket done January this year along with the water pump and cam belt so I shouldn't have any problems for the foreseeable future with a bit of luck !

Jay.
