Hi, old post i know, but when i used to work for a car solutions company, that also sold cars through there auction, we was asked to drive the car to the buyers Manchester Mot station, from the Midlands with no Mot.

Our cars were all insured as trade, but as the Mot had expired, it made the insurance invalid to drive so far to Manchester for a pre-booked Mot.The Only option was to trailer it there.
The law stated it must be the most local garage to your registered address, this was the case about 2 years ago, when i last worked there.

I suppose you'd have to dig out the statute. I'd be surprised if it said nearest, not all test stations are equal, even if it was only on price you could argue it was unfair. There is one famous bit of case law that got as far as the high court, where they tried to prosecute someone who stopped to buy petrol on the way to a test. The judge quoshed the conviction.

I'd also be surprised if you weren't insured, speeders and drunk drivers are.  Not having an MoT doesn't even attract points, and it's lawful in these circumstances.

Pretty sure that as long as the MOT is pre-booked you will be OK.

When we drove over the country for our company, if we was to pick a car up that turned out to not have a valid Mot, the car was left to be collected by a transporter.
All i can think is, because it would be classed as illegal with no Mot to drive it to our depot.Perhaps its different if booked in to a Mot station, but our company would not allow us to drive it to Manchester, where the customer had booked it in.
Surely if you could drive that distance, its open to be taken advantage of?

Lets say i want to take a car i just purchased upto Manchester.I ring a local Mot station near to where i want to go,and book it in, which then covers me for that journey without a Mot, but then i do not turn up for the test, thats a free ticket upto Manchester sorted? Cannot be right can it, unless i am missing something.
