From a very young age I've wanted a mini, both my parents have owned minis and my dad has built some lovely examples in his younger days (sadly he no longer owns them 😟😟) at the age of 14 with the prospect of driving soon I was on the lookout for a mini. One day I arrived home yo see a 1986 mini Mayfair on the drive that dad managed to buy on the cheap, it however was a complete mess and needed far too much work especially for the then value of the car, mum then stepped in and said she wanted me to have an air bag so the search for a late model began.

I was after a mini that needed some work and in November 2008 stumbled across a 1999 Cooper sportspack which had small accident damage (dented wing and broken headlight) and was a non-runner which was expected to be an immobiliser fault.

I ended up buying the car for £1600 and it soon after arrived home. The engine was soon fixed with a new battery and she fired up first time.

Unfortunately I have lost the photos due to broken phones until around half way through the build, but the car was treated to new sils, front floor, boot floor, front end and repairs to just about every panel.

We shall pic up the action once this work was completed

The photos above show the car with its new metal and the beginnings of paintwork with undercoat in the engine bay

The following job was to paint the engine bay which resulted in this

This was a huge milestone as by this time it was around 4 years after the car arrived home, soon after the body work gained more paint with undercoat being applied

The final paint preparation took place and the car was ready for its top coat, I have prepared a little before and after, hopefully you can tell which is which!!!!

Once the paint was on, I was desperate to get the car back on its wheels after around 3 years of them being stored!!

The photo doesn't show the addition of 4 pot callipers and fully adjustable suspension

Next up was painting the engine which at the moment remains basically standard other than a K&N filter and LCB manifold and getting it fitted along with a new DTM back box (which is much louder than expected!!!)

So the next jobs were to sort out the electrics, and get the car put back together. At this point the electric windows, central locking, air horns, musical air horns and spotlights were fitted. All were a nightmare but in my opinion worth the hassle!! The spotlights have been made switchable so I can choose to run just the 2 outer lights or all 4, instead of 2 fogs 2 spots as the mini is for summer use only!!

Once the majority of the car was together it was driven outside, the first time it saw daylight on over 4 years to have the stripes put on, I opted to have OEW stripes rather than bright white as the colour is less harsh!!

So the last job was to fit the grille and get the car through the MOT

Amazingly it passed 1st time, which I was chuffed about and u finally had my first drive of the mini on my 19th birthday, 2 years after the original completion date

But here is the 'finished' article... For now.....

Plans are to change the engine to a 1380 mpi with specialist componants throttle body kit, change the wheels to deep dish 13's, change the dashboard and centre console and a few other tweaks here and there!!!

I'll be sure to keep you posted!!

Nicely done. Good to see the great results you can achieve in a garage.

Cheers for the comments guys!! Really appreciate it!!!

Just a quick update with a couple of things I bought from bingley

image_zps1b456ece.jpg

Boot lining kit from optimise automotive, I'm really impressed with the quality of the kit, hopefully get it fitted at the weekend!!

image_zps358c25b8.jpg

And some chrome wheel nuts and a set of locking wheel nuts as I've never changed the current wheel nuts which have odd locking wheel nuts and odd nuts so look bad plus these should help stop the wheels being stolen!!!
