Done well they make working on Mini a piece of p***. Most are just dangerous bodge ups. Road car? Recomend use steel panels and add triangulation from top of bulkhead to leading edge of subframe if the inner wings are removed.

As Fwdracer says, done well in steel they look great and also make working on a mini really easy - almost essential for some types of 16V engine swaps.

You need a way of it not hitting the ground when you flip it forward too!

And flexing may be an issue

If it's about access to the engine, you can get some hinges which move the bonnet higher, they were advertised on here the other day!

Articulated bonnet hinges!

I'll see if I can find you a link!

Saw a nice set up at last years MITP......gut had a hinged one bonnet BUT lifting up not forward.....think he used Morris Minor hinges as  I think they are much longer....think you could use this on a one piece front....different....a bit like the front of a Mk1 Frogeye Sprite.

I made mine from a selection of steel mini panels, wings, front panel and A panels and welded them all together (as in a standard front end) but decided I wanted mine completely removable. The front end attaches to 2 bolts in the front subframe, 2 on each A panel (which bolt into brackets I made that bolt to the back of the door hinges) and 2 bolts which bolt through a triangulated panel which goes from the scuttle to the inner arch.

I fitted brace bars to build a bit more strength into it.

The wiring loom is detachable, so I can access ALL around the engine once the bolts are undone and front end is thrown to one side.

The bonnet bolts onto the front end through the top corner bolts (see above) and bottom corners through more triangulated plates.
