i'd keep the GTi - the values will be twice what a mini is worth in a few years, plus back in 88 i would have swapped a mini plus one of my kidneys for a 205 Gti!

I had a Pug 1.9 when it was new. I was puzzled that when the Mini Cooper was revived in 1990 and when Car Magazine compared it with all the hot hatches of the day both Gavin Green, the editor, and legendary motoring journalist LJK Setright both put the Cooper (RSP) at the top of their lists. The Pug was still generally rated better than the other hot hatches. My Pug was eventually stolen as frequently happened to them in the 90s and now much later I have a Cooper RSP. As a classic I would much rather have the Mini.
