Went essential shopping and came back with the mini.

Getting ready to put it on the jig:

Braced up:

On pallets so the subframes can be removed when it stops raining:

Managed to remove the subframes, was worried about undoing the heel board bolts but the came out with ease:
Little bit of motivation for myself, its going to be tight!

Going to be reusing the rear subframe, luckily the rust doesn't seem to bad on it:

Got him on the jig:

How i attached the jig to the car:
Squared round holes to the coach bolts to go through, and boxed off the end to add strength:

Put in some more metal, hopefully offering more support and also a datum point:

Got the floor out honestly loosing it with drilling out spot welds and finding more rust, drilled the sill ones out and cut the front and back out and dropped the floor just need to drill out the spot welds:
49874599173_314ccd2f0d_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Is there a better option to the closing panels as i'm not having companion bins and i think the current ones look naff and are rusty anyway?

Need to make some patches up for this, trying to figure out what order to do things:

Good progress!

I made my own closing panels and try to copy the original one which was quite rusty and beyond repair. You can have a look in my project on page 6.

I think you need to do the, as they build a part of the wheel well and are welded with the main floor. I would do them even without rebuilding the companion bins.

And I have done them before putting the floor in, because due to all the folds on it, it's quite impossible to place them after having brought the floor. And I don not have the companion bins yet.

Cheers

Gilles

Thanks for that I’ll have a look at yours.

Yeah I think you’re right it’s a good idea to put them in before the floor.

Been nice to have some rain today as it gives me an excuse to not work on him haha

Trial fitted the floor so i could get an idea where to put the patched on the seat base/healboard/ companion bin closing bit, its a bit tight in places and need to go forward a bit but it seems ok so far, still loads more to do before i can even contemplate putting the floor in floor in for good, also on this floor the seat belt mounting points are further forward for some reason:

Managed to get the floor fitting fairly well, however I tried putting the subframe on to line it up but i cant even get the subframe on the heel board, its like the trunions are the wrong angle or something, anyone have any ideas?

So the captive nuts were at the wrong angle so a bit off a tap and they were straightened, now the subframe fits. got it completely bolted down, seems like its putting more pressure on on of the bushes, so looking from above it looks like i need to some how move the floor a mm or so over:

49909176433_647a93d56a_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr

Looks like it needs to go slightly to the right:

Got a bit done over the bank holiday, the floor is pretty much fully welded in now, just a few seam welds to do and some spot welds.
Wanted to protect the sills as much as i could, so i did a few coats of rust encapsulator in them followed by seam sealing all the seams in the sills being careful to leave holes at the bottom so water doesn't get trapped, then painted the surfaces to we plug welded with some weld through primer, when i build the car up ill put some more rust encapsulator inside then some W.A.R:
49935185346_93c1ba1e0f_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Drilling and punching the holes for the plug welds took sooo long:
49935485257_b48db83672_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Its weird, it looks like the top side of the floor on the pic below isnt furthenough forward, but the sub frame had a bigger gap that side, so odd, maybe the boot floor holes arnt legit, hope it doesnt end up crabbing:
49935185466_458ecd4a40_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
All the datum points i put in seem to line up ok, so hopefully it'll be ok:

Long time no post, not getting as much done as i'd have hoped, working outside means its very weather dependent, if its not raining its too hot or too windy, tried not getting heat stroke by putting the gazebo up, still boiling. Any way excuses over, here's what i've been up to. Forgot to take a lot of pics annoyingly:
Patched up some rust on the seat base:
50130867401_2f320b718a_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Made a start on the boot floor:
50130886336_3c5d530ecc_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
50131090437_333d4bd20d_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
All chopped out, took ages drilling all the spot welds out etc:
50130840731_0b818ffd83_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Tubbing the rear arches, cut out loads as they were so rusty:
50131099527_54aa41a2a3_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr

50130308263_cef0ca995b_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Had my carbon parcel arrive, peed off a bit, one because I guesstimated the boot floor cut out and left deliberately more material on as its easier to cut more out than weld more in, the parcel arrived the day after i did that lol, and two heres the box, paid £150 postage for this big box, a bit of bubble wrap and some filler boxes in side, yes £150 for this, originally, i couldn't collect as i was away, but because it took so long i could have collected it in the end, so annoyed, waste of money:
50131095812_b19aef9e8e_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Not the most pleased with the way these are, paid good money for them and the workman ship isnt the best, i can say this as ive made carbon parts myself:
50130301103_70b36b9fb3_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
A little comparison the 13s on my brothers mini van and the 10s for mine haha:
50130300073_17f1a330e5_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
After loads of fettling and cutting and re welding the boot floor i got this to fit, i wont bond it in till im assembling the car:
50130839806_c25e34e91a_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Making some patches for the wheel arch, i should have just bitten the bullet and bought new panels:
50130282348_c59090cd31_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
After multiple attempts i decided to make the shock brackets out of thicker metal as i want them to be strong, was really hard to bed them to shape had to get the old blow torch out:
50131072342_296ce3f1df_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Used metal from my crash damaged land rover bumper:
50131080972_1bc8a6418c_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
One side welded in:
50130339953_8bdd4e2665_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Was going to try and reuse the rear valence seeing as it was new last time this was restored, but it was fairly butchered from where it was fitted before and i wasnt happy with the rust round the mating surfaces so bit the bullet and had a trip out to somerford minis as my brother wanted to take his van for a drive anyway, was one of the best magnum panels ive fitted, only £20 too!:

50130322693_b3c7189d98_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
Trying to make the closing panels as rust proof as possible:
50130270003_3c82e69798_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
As well as plug welding the valance on i seam welded round the edges to try and stop water getting in the flanges, took ages:
50131114087_a8abf84a1a_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
I may be doing this in a wrong way, but i painted the boot floor, then seam sealed it then painted over it again:
50130909236_e8824e99a3_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
50130315488_6d8af3d95d_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
I also drilled a small drainage hole in the closing panel and the bottom of the valance as i wanted any water that got in to be able to get out again, i also used these holes to use a scultz gun to spray the inside, managed to drop the tip of the rubber tube in the closing panel and theres no way of getting it out haha.
Also gave the inside a rough paint, will need to take it off the jog so i can do it properly:
50131108102_97dc2fcc86_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr
So my next job is to repair the circled area, its bad the whole way across and i cant find a repair panel which is just the bit circled only the whole back panel, its a complicated bit the the steps, how do people go about repairing it?

So I ended up cutting out all along as there was rust in-between the flanges the whole way along:

50154043568_417ba43293_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr

Got to be the most complicated panels ive had tpo make up, took ages, but happy with how the panels looked before welding them in:

50151515271_f9d94527b6_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr

I really need some more clamps:

50150965763_96942f3c77_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr

Welded them all in:

50151515656_ee8cd8b81a_z.jpgUntitled by Bryn Kinsman, on Flickr

Spent ages grinding the welds down, was happy how it looked, I then painted it and noticed it wasn’t quite right, the middle is slightly high so going to have to sort it out:
