What have others done to avoid the front fogging up? Any suggestions would be good as to what heated front screen is the best bang for your buck..

you could do the heater way, but as you have said you want to keep the lightweight side, so i would just go with the heated windscreen

I have installed an electric fan to take heat from the front rad and direct it onto the screen via some ducting. (I must get some photos of the build up sometime).

I have a heated screen, not a problem to wire up. and it works faultlessly.
