Hi guys just wondering if anyone has planned or attempted a ford 1.0 EcoBoost conversion. With the engine being around for a while they're popping up on eBay reasonably cheap so the thought of this little 3 cylinder boosted engine quite temps me..

Wonder if anyone could help me out here, couple of queries.

Would the best way to go about this be to buy a bare conversion frame like that used in Vtec etc builds and then weld up the required mountings yourself?

Would the 5 speed box fit?

What other issues may you encounter? Cheers for the help guys sorry for being a bit of a noob. I'm new.  :shy:

You'd have a few issues with the fly by wire throttle and other associated electronics with that engine. Probably better to run  a standalone ECU with it, and fit a throttle cable.

I think a few people have fitted daihatsu charade engines I think, which are a similar concept.

I'd love to see this done, I've been in a mates Fiesta and the 1.0 turbo lump really works well in a small car.

Was very interested in doing this a while ago but they were too expensive at the time, if i remember rightly, the 5 and 6 speed boxes are the same size but the 6 speed gets the ratios a bit better for mini wheels

i will probably attempt it over the next year or two after i have my engines built and i have a bit more cash about me but i reckon it would be a cracker conversion

thanks for the replies guys, its more and more tempting the more i think about it. The Engine itself is supposed to be brilliant and like you said they were a tad expensive but seem to popping up now and then for a reasonable price.

Someone has already touched on this but you need to makesure you can get it running without the car.. Just buying an engine will be no good, on many modern cars you need the car to swap all the electrical items over..

For instance corsa VXR, Ive seen an unfinished project where he had to use the corsa's clocks or the engine wouldn't work with the original ECU

It's not impossible, but you will need more than an engine..

Other than that if it fits in this hole it fits!

This is one on my lists of future projects, someone will probably get there before me.

I'd be buying a whole (scrapped) car as you would need the ecu loom etc

any thing is possible but you would be better off buying a complete car. probably pop up often and cheap as an insurance write off then you will have everything you need to convert it.

Looking forward to reading about this.

Would  the cat not also be a problem if you tried to run the original engine management? Something which has a diesel stablemate to pinch the gearing off could help.
