"Sorry the van is a 68 and not a 69 as title suggests ;-)

I've been in the garage today to make a start on my van project.

Its a good strong van that has been laid up since 1997, The previous owner had made a start on its restoration and so I shall be carrying on from where he left off although the areas that he had painted I shall have to do again to be sure of a final colour match. Luckily he has only done the floor and under side.

My plan to prep what I can for now before it heads of over to Shiftys for a bit of panel work, I have most of the panels to complete it but I've also ordered a new loadbed from M Machine too as the one in the in the van at the moment although it is solid it is quite dented.

Today was a day of paint removal, I managed to clear the roof and the 2 rear quarters before I had to stop.

I plan to get the doors and bonnet free of paint tomorrow if all goes well.

Luckily it doesn't need much Sal as it is a pretty solid van ;-)

The previous owner used to own a garage and the van was used as the company van until it was laid up in the 90s, He had used oil as a preventive measure against rust and it obviously worked as the floor is in fantastic condition for 45yrs old.

Thought I would work my way from the roof down as it is the lower panels that are in need of some attention.

After treating some small surface rust spots on the roof area yesterday I was ready to rub the areas back today and get some primer down on the van.

You can see here how the Hydrate 80 rust treatment has affected the rust areas by turning them black in colour, This is 24hrs after treatment.

Another quick rub down and I was ready with the primer.

The roof is now much easier for me to work with, Next step is to fill its little dinks in and get it as flat as possible before I move onto the inside of the roof.

Cheer mate, I have just purchased a new air compressor, DA sander and spray gun etc, I am hoping the progress will be a little easier from now on.

The sander that I'm using at the moment is quite a bulky one and so a decent palm sander was a must as I have plenty of rubbing and flatting to do ;-)

Its not that time yet mate  ;-)

The roof and sides have had a good rub down and I've chucked some primer on to make things a little easier for me to see where the dinks and dents are,

I've also done the same to the 2 sides but just up to the wings for now (doors are off),

I like to concentrate on a section at a time or else I will find myself missing bits, Once im happy the roof and sides are flat I`ll then move onto the front end and its doors.

Luckily the van has no real nasty's it is quite a solid shell, It wants 2 new rear quarter repair panels and its loadbed wants a couple of repair panels too in the corners near to the back doors, I was going to have the loadbed completely changed but if I can get it looking half decent then I shall stick with this one I think.

Not much of an update other than todays efforts,

This afternoon has been quite a good one as I've sorted out the n/s quarter,

it was the worse out of the 2 and so I thought it best I go ahead and tackle this one first, I'm quite pleased with the way its turned out too,

The other quarter isn't near as bad as this side was and so shouldn't take as much effort to get it straight,
