Hi all,

whilst looking for a metro for my mate, i came across this little gem

http://www.carandcla...uk/car/C325435#

MetroChairman1.jpg

metroChairman2.jpg

MetroChairman3.jpg

i'm sure there is a clubman estate modified by the same company that has been restored and goes round all the shows.

PS: mods, please feel free to move this to the right section. i'm not trying to advertise the sale, just wanted to share the car is all  :shy:

What was the purpose of the tall cabin?  Work space?  "I want really bad mileage"?  Pretend-Popemobile?

It's for disabled people. You're right there is a pageant blue clubby estate that goes to shows. It's owned by a young chap called Matthew, him and his dad did the restoration. He adapted it for his son who is in a wheel chair.

I'd be all over one of those if there were any decent solid ones and I had the space. Would be an awesome base for a camper conversion :D

Gotcha.  I completely missed the sign on the back panel.  I really should wear my glasses when reading.  And also recognize that "Chairman" doesn't refer to whomever is the head of a corporation or whatever I was apparently thinking.  Duh on my part.

They must've done some interesting upgrades with the rear suspension on these to handle the weight of a lift, I'm guessing?

Over here, I don't think I've ever seen small vehicles converted as such for mobility purposes.  Larger vehicles generally in Canada/US so you tend to see Dodge Caravan conversions and the like with a side lift installed.

I vaguely remember a pale blue roundnose mini van/estate with this conversion when i was a kid. I often saw it parked outside someone's house up the end of my road. That is most likely been dead and buried for years now  :shy:

ZinZan, Most of the disabled wagons over here now are converted from small MPV's like the Vauxhall Zafira or van derived cars like the Renault Kangoo or Citroen Berlingo. But in the 90's many wheelchair cars were made from either small hatchbacks or small vans with a high top added.

It seems the trend these days is to cut the floor out of the back of the car to be converted and lower the floor instead of raising the roof. I guess it helps to keep the car looking standard and to blend in, plus i suppose there are safety bonus's too.

If i was in a position to buy, i would defiantly buy it!

I would restore it to as it was new and keep it as a chairman.

be a headturner at the shows etc
