1989 998cc mini + HS4  + Stage 1 Kit + 99 Octane fuel

When i push the accelerator pedal i get around a 1 to 2 second delay before the power comes in.
When the engine is cold it is worse and it makes a burbling noise, more choke seams to help.
Happens all across the rev range.
Sometimes i get an instant response if i stay quarter to half throttle then go full.

An example of how this is annoying is when i exit a corner i have to plant my foot to the ground as i enter it to be able to accelerate out.

There is oil in the dashpot, im using 3 in 1 oil.
Timing is set to standard if anything a little bit more advance
Compression is 8.5 to 9 bar with a hot engine
Im using NGK BP6ES plugs
Distributor is fitted with electronic ignition

Listen to the engine, instead of flooring it like in a modern car with electronics controlling everything, you have to tickle it :)

If i go part throttle its the same. If i go to little it doesnt pick up.

I'd check your ignition timing and also that your vac advance is connected and undamaged. Mine had terrible flat spots despite a nice blue burn on colour tune, a quick fiddle by ear of the timing and instant pickup. Mine is adanced more now than specified but doesn't pink and much better than running on book figures.

don't forget that quoted figures are probably for lower octane fuels so that will make a small differance

Thicken up the carb oil. To engine oil. See if that improves it.

Correctly tuned, you should be able to floor the throttle in a Mini with no problems or hesitation.

3-in-1 is way too thin.

Like others have said, drain it out and refill with engine oil.

turn the dizzy slowly listening to the engine speed, when it is at its fastest clamp the dizzy and readjust the idle speed on the carb

My 998 was built in 1983 and I am still waiting for the power to kick in.
