I've been enjoying my first couple of journeys out in my 1993 Mini 1275. I think it has stage1 kit and HS4 carb with K&N filter. Just wondering what things I can look towards in the future to improve performance?

Thanks

HIF44 carb and a decent cylinder head for a start. Then a cam change. Also consider better exhaust system if not already fitted.

As said above really depends how much you spend

Or you can get your head worked on ( polished ported bigger valves etc )

A 1993 1275 would have had a HIF38 as standard, so are you sure it's an HS4? Either way, you'll need a HIF44 or similar if you're planning any further mods.

As above though, an upgraded head would be the next stage if you've already got a stage 1 kit, ideally with a warmer cam in order to get the most from it. I believe that the non cooper Rover 1275's at that time were fitted with low compression engines, producing around 10bhp less than a standard 1275. I seem to recall that this was achieved by using different pistons, so you should find that you could gain that power back by replacing the pistons with standard items.

First of all decide what you want to use the car for.

Then read through the many, many threads on here discussing performance up-grades.

Then decide how much you can afford to spend.

From that you can develop a specification and post it on here and we'll all discuss it with you.

Hi,

To confirm that's an HIF type carb as should be fitted!

Cheers, Steve

Yep, that's a HIF carb.

The next step for tuning, after a 'stage 1' kit, is to get a better flowing head. This involves enlarging and polishing (gas flowing) the ports, and possibly fitting bigger valves.
Then you'll want I consider a cam change (engine out job).
You could also raise the CR.
