Well... it's important to me anyway!
Today (June 30th, 2004) is my Mini's 40th birthday! Thanks to everyone in the U.K. who put it together! 11 days (and 40 years ago) from now the car started its journey to Switzerland and its brief career racing before eventually ending up in the hands of a U.S. serviceman in Germany who brought it back to the States.
This is a day I've anticipated for quite a while.
Happy Birthday !!! - My Mini is 40 !!!

I know my car's history since 1968. The four years it spent in Switzerland after leaving the factory are sketchy at best. I know it was rallied there and that it suffered body damage at that time. I know this because only the boot lid was fixed during the next 30 years. Proper body repairs didn't happen until I got the car four years ago. I know four of the five previous U.S. owners of the car... three of them fairly well. I don't think I would have bought the car if I didn't know at least a little about it.
I think the car's biggest birthday present was delivered six months ago when I rebuilt its engine. Or perhaps it was last month's exhaust system. It gets more presents per year than a person does!
