I'm a mini noob so bear with me if my question seems stupid!

 

Just looking under my offside sill I noticed a couple of areas that may need attention.

 

At the rear it looks like it is missing some sort of paint/coating. It doesn't look too corroded to me but I'm thinking it may need a little cleaning up and sealing/painting? What do you seasoned mini owners think? I have no idea what sort of products I would need to do it.

 

Same sill at the front it looks a little more corroded. Again looks like it's lost some coating at the top. Could this be cleaned up and re-sealed/made good? The area below also looks like it need a little TLC.

 

May seem basic/silly questions but I have no experience with car maintenance even though Ive been driving them for 27 years :). Hopefully you can offer a few pointers as to how I should tackle it.

Sill rot tends to start from inside so you will probably make holes if you poke around, if you can't or don't want to weld new panels yourself then I would take it somewhere for evaluation as these sort of jobs can easily expand in size once you start looking.

Looks like you may be needing to regrease the suspension, the rear grease nipples look a little bit unused!

So this is more a job of replacing the sills rather than a repair?

Out of interest, what are the sills coated with? I notice it's coated then painted by the looks of it.
