This is the '60's.

A young 'Cooperman' co-driving on the Portuguese International TAP Rally in 1968 with the late Jock Russell in a Porsche 911. We were 10th overall out of 181 starters and 18 finishers. It was one hell of a rally and my old friend Tony Fall won in a Lancia with Paddy second in a 'works' Cooper 'S'. Paddy should have won, but he and we were both held up at a level crossing with him losing 3 minutes and us losing 4 on the road timing.

Another one with young 'Cooperman' navigating for Colin Walker in the Charles King of Bedford Escort Mexico on the 1974 Devil's Own Ford-Mexico Championship Rally. My son, now 40, was 2 months old when that was taken.

Hope I'm not boring you with these nostalgic photos ;D .

Getting a class win (up to 1000 cc) in my son's 998 Cooper with full 970 'S' engine & running gear with Tony Pettie navigating. To think my son let me loose in his car, but it was my engine & gearbox! Blooming thing was all revs and not much go (82 bhp @ 6800 rpm). Never liked the wheel arch extensions or the huge mirror. I think the mirror got broken off on another rally together with one of the arch extensions.

I seem to be on a nice tight line on that test.

One last one this time:

The 1965 RAC Rally of Great Britain - when it was 2500 miles and 5 days & nights long with just one night in bed:

I'm co-driving for the late Alec Lobb in a Mk.1 Cortina GT, but in this shot I seem to be driving one of the long road sections and we've stopped for petrol:

PS, I recently navigated for Alec's Grandson David in a Vauxhall Corsa. David never met his Grandad, so I was able to tell him about him. It was quite moving actually and a milestone in my rallying career. My first international rally was with Alec, the 1964 RAC and my first 'works' drive was with him on the 1966 Monte Carlo in an NSU 1000TTS (interesting little car, a bit like a 1000 cc Imp).

I was out marshaling with David Lobb at the last East Anglian Classic, what a great lad and he can certainly pedal that little Vauxhall...

I don't have as many stories as Peter to share but I thought I'd contribute, kind of 'off topic', with a pic from the last Targa Rally at Debden airfield. Being in black and white adds a bit of 'old feeling'.

I want to try historic events but car is not old enough... car did well this year in the CMC 12 car Winter Series, coming 2nd in driver´s championship.

Registered in 86, I guess I could find exact manufacturing date with some info and a letter to BH...

I'd double check whether it is the date of manufacture or the date it was registered though.  Another thing you would have to do is get hold of some homologation papers - but i bet they are easy to get hold of for a mini.

I was told that if you can prove the manufacturing date, obviously earlier than registration, you're all go...

Anyway, I thought on getting a MSA licence last year but then I realised that not being a UK national an extra fee had to be paid for the first one. The 1 year old little thing crawling on the carpet seems to be taking all my motor sport budget so I'm sticking to club card only events. One day...

Ha ha.....a baby will do that unfortunately!!!  Thats why i'm getting both my cars prepped as much as I can now, because as soon as I have kids the money will disappear!!

Maybe whilst she's pregnant, but after that back to normal....get a mini bucket seat in the back!!!!

I've already decided that the 9 month 'no motorsport' period is my 'get the car rust free and paint it' period!!!
