I'm looking at cars to use as a daily driver, doing about 300 miles a week which I'm not fancying too much in the Mini.

I've looked at a few different Peugeots, the 208 and the 207. Also looked at Puntos

Ideally need to find something I could get on finance, or otherwise I'll have to wait a while

French electrics, not a risk I would take sadly. They are both boring bit fiestas and polos are good solid cars. The seat Ibiza is dirt cheap but does feel a bit bargain basement inside.

Most modern cars are pretty good really.

It depends on what size of car you need.

My Grandson, who is 19, has a 2007 Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Titanuim X with the 6-speed auto box and he loves it. He uses it for commuting, for journeys for his job and for social motoring. It gives around 50 mpg and the gearbox is quite 'seamless'. But this evening he has gone out in my 1964 Cooper 'S' as he is also a Mini-nut.

My 12 plate Ibiza is lovely inside. It's the stupid 17 inch wheels and ridiculously hard ride I don't like.

It got a bit "interesting" when making progress up the M20 last night

we had a 14 as a courtesy car when some donkey bumped my wife's Mazda. The inside was scratchy plastic and not the quality of ford/ Mazda/ vw but then they don't cost as much so it's not surprising. Ok apart from that.

My only other gripe is that the 1.6TDi engine is rubbish on fuel compared to the 2.2TD Mazda

+1. I had a C30 R Design for a little while. Was a awesome car!

Only pics I've got of it are on my ancient iPhone :P only had it for a few months while waiting for my Corsa VXR. Would have another C30 in a flash though

I have had quite a few Peugeots and Citroens and never had any problems with electrics whatsoever.

I would advise against buying a new car unless you don't mind losing money hand over fist. Get something a few years old, pay alot less and get more for your money.

Thats what i will be doing when i replace my car later in the year.

I shall be looking for a medium sized Diesel estate. Don't care what it is or if the dash is a bit plasticky as long as it is reliable and economical to run because thats the name of the game as far as i am concerned!

Try the auctions. Saw a 10 plate SsangYong thing go for about £700 a few weeks ago. Nothing wrong with it, just nobody wanted it. Blackbushe is a great day out (good bacon sarnies too).

I'm 19, and I drive a Volvo v50 daily. My mates think its funny, but its far better equipped than anything they drive - HIDs, heated leather interior, dual a/c, auto everything, electric everything! I can get all manor of mini parts in the boot, the roof bars are handy. The 2.0ltr Turbo diesel is far from slow and it returns 48mpg easy.

I love it, parts are easy (ford based) It's 05 plate, done just under 100k miles, and fsh, I paid very little for it. It's a little big, but it was so cheap to insure. It eats the miles I travel for work lovely! Sometimes it pays to think outside the box.
