I have just fitted new ball joints on my mini and with the kit came a small spring about 1 cm tall, I couldn't see where it was meant to go ? Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Its meant to go in the Hub, one of the Balljoint seats has a recess that it slips into, this may be covered by grease but I assure you it's there, in the Top balljoint if I remember correctly.

Cliff is correct except the spring is on the bottom ball joint. You can read about it and see pictures in the two links below.
