1976 Classic Mini Clubman Convertible Rolling Shell Project Spares Or Repair

LHN2ub.jpg

"Here we have are old Mini Clubman Convertible "Sooty" The name Sooty was gave to it because when it used to have it's previous engine it used chuck out black soot and used to cover cars behind it in sooty oil splats so the name Sooty just stuck. A little bit of history about Sooty, we brought this in around 2008 as a project, yes one of them projects that never got finished ! In 2009 we drove the car all the way from Cornwall to do the London to Brighton mini run and it did actually make it there and back unlike are Spi mini cooper that decided to blow up its alternator leaving 5 people having to cram in the little Clubman to get back home. We then used to drive it around local which was great fun with the roof down until one of are other mini's blew it's engine up and Sooty's smokey little engine had the valve stems done and got used in the other mini and never got replaced. Ever since then It has been sat up getting rustier and is now time to sell as i have to many projects on the go and there's simply not enough hours in the day to get them all done.

As you can see from the pictures it pretty much needs a full restore and i have included some pictures of rust spots etc. In all honesty it could do with a new front floor putting in as someone has previously done a very bad repair patches on it, it passed mot like it but it's not ideal. Log book states that it is a clubman convertible. It could also do with 2 new sills, boot lid, rear valence, where the door hinges mount to and possibly more. On a good note the front end seems to be solid which is costly on Clubmans with only needing minor repairs and it's nice to keep the original front on, the bonnet is bent though as it flew up onto the windscreen while driving. It also has the original clubman bumpers which are now getting rarer and rarer ! The rear subframe also appears to be solid which is a good bonus. The roof isn't the worst fit but it will need some attention as some of the poppers have come off and the windows are a bit faded etc The material is in quiet good condition. Underneath the leather on the roof there appears to be rust underneath but i have not taken it off to see how bad. The interior as you can see from the pictures is not complete and was from a mini mayfair. We planned on putting a leather interior in once the car was eventually finished. The dash is missing (this was how it was last driven) It does have dials there etc which all used to work. Wiring loom is still there also and not been cut. I will empty the interior out before the auction ends as the parts inside are not included along with the front headlight and exhaust. The car will also come on steel wheels. Overall there are various parts missing of it and it's worth coming to view so you can see it/ inspect it for yourself. I am open to sensible offers and px's

This is an ideal project for someone with a bit of time on there hands and handy with a welder and could be done for next summer !

Remember to read the description before you bid, you bid to buy not to come and kick the tyres. It is to be collected from Callington, Cornwall within 7 days of auction end"
