I want to wire up my facet solid state pump this weekend

What's the best way to do it

I don't want to use a oil pressure switch to wire it up

I just want to use a relay , and dash switch

Erm, you've pretty much answered your own question. Switched feed from somewhere (or permanent live) to relay. Same with switch. Couple of earths and you're done

Its your choice but you should consider a way of isolating the power feed in the unlikely event of a serious accident, remember you or your passengers may not be able to turn off the power switch or turn off the ignition. If your not using the oil pressure method consider an inertia switch - http://www.minispare...|Back to search

I have just finished wiring for mine. Have run a switched feed through an inertia switch and then on to pump. Also wired from the third pin on inertia switch to a spare warning light in my centre binnacle so i can see if it trips

Hi,

I went down the inertia switch route for safety to cut off the fuel in the event of an accident as "the Principal" said.

Whilst rebuilding my car, I fitted a wiring loom that had the heated rear window supply and used that as my car is a MkIII and doesn't have this type of window.
It was then quite easy to make up a small custom loom to run from the inertia switch down through the bootfloor and onto the pump.
I mounted the switch high up vertically on the rear seat backrest panel on a home made bracket.

These inertia switches can also be used as a secondary security device against theft.
If you leave the car parked, just tap the switch to trigger the device then lock the bootlid. If an attempt is made to steal your car, the thieves won't get far!!!

On your return, simply reset the switch and off you go!!

Cheers, Steve.

Okay thanks guys basically the way I was going to do it

ground (pump)
Live from pump to ignition live
Switch from ignition live
And switch ground

Have I got that right or am I we'll off to be honest I just want to wire it up simple as possible just to get the car started after the engine rebuild so I don't need to worry about a cut off at the moment

Thanks

The pump needs an earth, and power from the switch.

Yeah I run the live from the pump to the switch and earth from the pump goes straight to the body so I take it you just earth the switch

Please be careful, your knowledge of electrics seems basic and getting it wrong can end in a fire.

Ign live to one side of switch
Other side of switch to +ve pump wire
-ve pump wire to earth/ground.

Ideally a suitable fuse should be in the feed from the ignition live.

As said, inertia switch or oil pressure switch is also worthwhile for your safety.

Yeah it's basic lol

Cut off switch I will fit later on I just want the pump to work to start the engine up and time it up

And ignition live I'm going straight from the fuse box so I shouldn't need to fit a fuse should I ??
