Can someone please explain the phenomenon that is lowered VWs? (I know other marques are involved but in the main it seems to be VW).

I see so many Golf / Bora / Polos bouncing down the road on their virtually non existent suspension, occupants being shaken about, bumpers almost scraping the road, tyres rubbing on the wheel arches to the extent that the arches are rusting, almost always being lost in a cloud of over fueled diesel smoke. icon_rolleyes.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

I just dont get this at all. How are these cars insured or MOT'd.

I know its each to their own but really???

Crappy VW owners for ya *runs and hides* :P

Edit: nah joke that's a bit dread lol. But yeah, I can't stand "slammed" VWs. Like you said, they're the worst for it. Especially Golfs and Polos. Ergh!

So many around my area. I swear they're all trying to see who can go the lowest. Some are nearly as good as sitting on the floor.

There is a prat look Polo going around here and oh my... I've never seen a car so low!

I like it when people slam or 'stance' performance versions

Say a golf Gti...why spend money on a Gti if your gonna make it undriveable

Suppose someone is gonna tell me most of those are on airbags now...

If you ain't laying frame you ain't dubbin!

It's surprising how good the ride can be when it's that low...

And yes most are on bags... I'm just trying to justify spending a couple of grand for mine.. Lol

Can't see the point at all.

They lower a car to make it virtually un-driveable on the road and think that is some sort of achievement.

What do they do that for? Looks totally stupid as well, probably because it is.

On the upside, it can be really quite amusing to watch them trying to get over speed bumps though!

i can only say that from experience with T2 VW's, it doesn't matter how low you go... you can't hurt performance when there isn't any to speak of!!!

with regards to Lupos, Polos, Golfs etc... each to their own. Its their money and you can't tell them how to spend it. As a former member of the Dub scene, i can catagoricaly state that they think that minis are just as much a waste of time and money

but when they convert them so stupidly they are either dangerous to others, or, like a neighbour of mine, take half an hour to get off the estate and cause chaos whilst they do it, I can and DO complain.

Even VW know about it though - remember that ad they ran a few years back with the sadly modded Golfs? I wonder if these owners realise they've just probably halved the value of their car. They might spend thousands but only about 5 people would be interested in buying it.

I sold my grey MK1 Gti to a 19 year old in a nearby village 8 years ago and thought he would mess with it. But he hasn't. He looked after it and kept it as a genuine example. It looks so much nicer than some slammed, blacked-out monstrosity that makes your eyes bleed.
