There was a problem with heater valves leaking a while back and nobody was selling a good quality one which didn't fall apart after a few months (ask me how I know). Has this issue been resolved yet? Has anybody got a source or recommendation for one which allows you to adjust the temperature from inside the car using the normal pull chord?

Thanks, Paul.

I've got some old second hand ones, or you can use the inline type.

Alternatively, you can not bother with the tap, as there isn't any air flow through the heater when the fan isn't on you don't get much heat when the fan isn't on anyway.

I went to L2B this year with that set up and it was ok

That's how I'm running mine using one of these: http://www.dsnclassi...ngled-1-2-hose/

Can't run without one for much longer as it's my daughter's car and she'll complain when it gets cold - takes after her Mother!!

I was hoping that somebody would have produced the original type that I could just drop back in.

Cheers, Paul.

You can run without one, hot water circulates all the time, but you only really get heat when the fan is on

You can use one of the very early one from a Morris minor -

http://www.morrismin...INDEX(stock)=11

You have to open the bonnet to turn it on or off but they never go wrong. Just keep it on in the winter and off in the summer, spring and Autumn just crack it half open. This way you still get cold air in summer.

There have always been problems with the remote taps, I had them fail in the 60s !

Thanks for the info. and the link.

I've bought a remote one from Mini Sport who have just had a batch in with a modified design. The end which leaks now has more material swaged over so I'll see how that goes and if that fails I'll throw in the towel and go for the one in the link above.

Cheers, Paul.

there was a thread on here that showed you why they failed and how to modify them to eliminate the problem. it made perfect sense. i know you shouldnt have to but it will be reliable after.

Ive gone down the straight off the head route - been driving most of summer now with no issues, just dont have the fan on as Carlos suggests and it doesnt get too hot inside.  Let us know how the new part is Paul (just as interest to me as I CBA to try to put another one on after 2 failures).

Ive just taken delivery of my 3rd heater valve, after having 2 explode, one on the L2B run last year and one on my way home from work a couple of days ago!, (the angled type) this one is from minispares its supposed to be re-tooled  to stop the end exploding off showering the ignition system in hot coolent! 3rd time lucky hopefully, it looks a bit of a lash up to be honest, hopefully dont explode tho!.

Well I can report that the heater valve I bought from Mini Sport back in August is still going strong and hasn't failed yet, so fingers crossed!!

Paul.

Pleased to hear that yours is still going OK, just keep an eye on it.

I had look at CBS this morning, and they have many more options than last time I looked, though they only seem to have 1 that suits 1/2" Hose, all others suit 5/8" hosing;-

This is the only 1/2" one:-

http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/12mm-12-heater-valve  (i have one of these in one of the cars and works well, but not always convenient)

These all suit 5/8" Hose. but you could use them with adaptors;-

http://www.carbuilde...ss-heater-valve

with this perhaps (although a standard Mini one would also work I think)

Looks like I spoke too soon - the 'new improved' heater valve I bought from Mini Sport back in August has just failed :(

I'm now going to fit the one suggested above for the Morris Minor - my daughter can live with the fact that she'll have to turn it off and on inside the engine bay.

Paul.

Tell her to leave it on except for the hottest middle of the summer. No air flow = very little heat into the car, but it's nice to have cold air June to August!
