Roll bar is in! I think it turned out really nice. We added another attachment point towards the front of the car with a bar running close to floor just for piece of mind. This will be a street car first so we didn't want to put a full cage in the car.

Haven't made a lot of progress as of late but we did go check out the car today. Flares are getting mocked up and a few other little things. We finalized paint colors and are going with 1955 Ford Thunderbird Blue for the body and Ford Wimbledon White for the roof. The plan is to get paint on the car in two weeks.

I've tried to get hold of roadhouse in Oklahoma via a PM to ask him a question about his 1960 R1 Mini build but so far without success. Does anyone have any contact details for him, or just to let him know that I'm trying to get hold of him? If so please can you PM me here on the Mini Forum? I respect his privacy so best not to post anything here. Many thanks.

Graham

Several setbacks have pushed paint back a few months. It's been a little tricky getting the sportspack flares to match up with the MK1 body but we are getting closer. The front flares will have the side marker and bumper indents filled (not using side markers and the MK1 bumper isn't long enough to really reach the flares. Bumpers are now on along with the fog lights. Slow progress is still progress I guess. Also waiting on some parts to rebuild the sliding window mechanisms for the doors. So those should be good as new soon.

I decided to take advantage of the current exchange rates and ordered the Lynx Racing R1 swap kit. I went with the basic kit (minus front sprocket), manual gear change option and aluminum race radiator. John at Lynx suggested using a 13 tooth front sprocket vs the 14 tooth sprocket they normally provide in their kit. the 13 tooth sprocket is what they run in their race cars but it's pricey to get it to the UK. Easy to get in the US so that's a win for me. This will be the second kit they've shipped to the US.

The kit should arrive in 6-8 weeks and the goal is to have the car back from the body shop by then...fingers crossed. Ready to start putting this thing together!

Exciting times ahead! Will be interesting to see how you get on with the install.

What rear sprocket are they supplying with the kit?

Exciting indeed. The rear sprocket is 35 tooth for 5/30 chain.

That's smaller than I thought it would be. Mine is a 41 tooth rear and I was going to drop front to 14 tooth. I'm finding clearance is very tight on the rear so might have to drop down a few sizes.

My basic research has led me to the rule of thumb for bikes that basically a 1 tooth change on the front equates to roughly a 3 tooth change in the opposite direction in the rear. So if you're at 15 front/41 rear is that essentially the same as my 13 front/35 setup? Does the shorter chain length on our cars void this theory? Again this is my limited understanding so correct me if this is wrong. Obviously there are more factors at play here, just speaking in generalizations.
