1293, Vmax blower kit, fresh rebuild.

It's finally up and running nicely after many teething problems, but it's now making a kind of squealng noise when on boost. Almost like a loose fan belt sort of noise, only it's not loose!

I know it's hard to diagnose through a description of a noise, but anyone got suggestions/trobleshooting hints?

I can't replicate the noise on idle as it needs to be boosting to make said noise.

Guessing the belt is fairly new and in good condition, check the tension against what the supplier recommends, check the belt and pulleys are clean, also if it's too tight the bearings might make a noise but I'd be surprised

I had the same issue. I had to add another pulley near the supercharger to get more belt wrap around the S/C pulley.
I then had to run the car for a while to warm up the belt (it stretches a little when warm) then re tension. This fixed my issue.

It's got good tension when warm.

I tried talc which has made the noise louder and also now sounds like a loose belt on tickover. I'm not sure whether to change the sc drive belt and fan belt with new. (Sc belt isn't old itself and I can't remember when the fan belt was new)

How are the sc drive pulley bearings lubricated?

If a belt is too tight, it can make the bearings in pulleys whine. However, I wouldn't have thought this would only happen on boost.

Could be because there'll be more load on the bearings

Mine squealed on start up, at boost or if I pumped the throttle quickly. I too thought mine was tight enough but it only needed to be a tiny bit tighter to stop the Squeeling.

Unless your belts have gone hard there isn't much else it could be. There are multi V belts out there with cross cuts to assist with grip. Maybe this will help

Good luck working it out.

Hi

I've heard of the soap trick , and heard of the belt conditioner spray

but havn't done either - just another option - poly v belts do bottom out after a while & oxidise
