Hey all! Time for my second project thread here - a bit different this one, as there's no welding or bodywork involved for a change. I have now finished Uni and have a job so have some cash to splash on the Clubby. Ive bought a Pug 106 for a daily driver and the Clubby is now off the road for some TLC. The plan is to make her absolutely concourse - she will be original with period mods only, but with a twist. A few months back I bought a modified cylinder head and twin carbs for her, Ive since found out with the help of various people in the know that the head is a genuine Speedwell modified head. Starting off as a standard early 998 head, Speedwell have ported it, polished it, smoothed and shaped the chambers and fitted larger valves (part number 77951 from this Speedwell catalogue):

So the plan is to re-build her as a Speedwell Clubman. Ive never seen one before, but Speedwell was still around in 1972 when my car was built so this conversion is period for her. The plan is to collect the contents of a Speedwell Sprint kit as below:

And combine it with the Speedwell cylinder head. I already have the twin HS2's. I will be searching for the Speedwell separate inlets and Speedwell ram stacks, and applying the correct Speedwell decals to the carbs as seen in the above pic. I will also swap the rocker cover for a chromed steel one with the correct Speedwell badges. Interior wise, there will be Speedwell gauges and a Speedwell throttle pedal (again, these will have to be painstakingly searched for over the coming months!)
She will be running on gloss black Reverse Rims with no hubcaps and Speedwell wheel centres, lowered on genuine RAC homologated Hi-Los (original 70's ones) and Yoko A032R's. The DSN bits inside will be swapped for standard and a Retro Sound radio installed. Any how, heres a few pics
Got today and tomorrow off work so made a start, beginning with the front end. I plan to lift the body up and over the front subby and engine, its just easier. Today I got the front subby and engine fully dis-connected and ready for removal tomorrow. The subbys and running gear will be sent off for blasting and powdercoating. All the bodywork needs is a good machine polish and a few stonechips filling in.
