Hi all, I have the chance to buy a 2002 scenic for peanuts. Has long long mot and tax etc AC leather and all the whistles and bells. Very clean also

The owner says it has a misfire and it is probably an injector.

Any advice?

Ben

If it's the same 1.9 dci engine as found in lagunas and traffic/vivaro/primastar vans they are prone to many problems. Firstly if fitted with the 6 speed pk6 gearbox expect to replace it.

They also have trouble with turbo failure, injector pumps and injectors.

Oh dear had a 03 Laguna 1.9dci and had to replace the gearbox before the turbo failed.

I now have a nissan primastar 2.0dci with the same gearbox and this has just failed at 50k motorway miles

If it is only an injector that is not the end of the world? Get somebody who knows to check it out, could be a lot of money to fix.

Just spoke to the chap and he said it misfires most of the time but slightly.

He also said that it happened before and he had 1 injector replaced and it sorted it. Now the problem is back and he says the symptoms are the same so will probably be one of the other injectors now.

I don't know what to do, its so clean and has almost a years MOT and although not strictly my cup of tea, will suit my needs perfectly

If your buying it for peanuts - then you won't lose much

run it till it dies - I would change the fuel filter first before trying to diagnose any faults

Renaults esp diesels have a reputation for electrical engine faults

but so do a lot of other makes esp Vauxhall (used to be good)

hope it's a good one - about time you had a bit of good luck

It could be an injector, it could also be the fuel pressure regulator valve on the high pressure diesel pump. Might even be as simple as a dirty fuel filter. These engines do run better using genuine Renault filters. Electrics are also a know problem with these cars. Especially if it has the electronically controlled heating control panel

Also the EGR valve could be knackered/dirty too.

well i'm defiantly going to view it and price up all the bits and see how it goes.

It really is immaculate so if it's an easy fix then it will make an excellent car/workhorse
