Right then,

I’ve come to the realisation that my mini project will have to be sold.  Not only is it my project, its my first car (bought the car when I was 15) learnt to drive in her and passed my test in her. With my time being taken up with my job, other commitments and saving for a house I just cant justify owning her anymore. Its an incredibly reluctant sale and I can guarantee I am a genuine seller, but problem is I haven’t been in the mini scene for a while and have no idea what she’s worth. So, I need a valuation from you guys before I officially put her up for sale in the next month.

I understand when it comes to items with sentimental value; owners will add their own sentimental tax on top of their estimations so please, take no pity here and be ruthless about what you think the valuation is.

Anyway, lets get down to it.

It’s a genuine red 1988 (E reg) Austin mini Red Hot with a standard little 998cc engine. All correct V5 documentation and all documentation from my ownership. Now as I understand it the Red Hot editions were pretty rare with only 3500 being produced in the UK and by the looks of it on “how many left”, currently 43 on the road with 117 Sorn. Not many at all left.

Good Points:

·      Genuine Body & V5 to match

·      New rear pattern subframe

·      Gaz rear shocks

·      Loads upgrade parts; bushes, braided hoses, starmag 6x10 alloys, etc (may be sold separately)

·      Most of the parts which were salvageable are still there!

·      Replacement panels; floor pan, sills.

Bad Points:

·      Rust – all the classic mini places (sills, rear pockets, boot, front end, boot)

·      Cowboy owner before me – classic filler and fibreglass bodge repairs on inner & outer sills.

·      No original interior

·      Engine is likely to be seized and will most definitely need replacing or a re-build.

·      Only a rolling shell, nothing works.

Pictures can be seen in my (very short) project, Link in my signature.

Now, obviously as she has no MOT or tax and as the brakes are not even connected and she’s only in a rolling state, collection will need to be arranged by the buyer so may need to be taken into consideration.

I will categorically state now that this mini will be sold as one for the purpose of a restoration and not for breakers and a valuation for it broken won’t be listened too! Sometime in the very distant future I’d love to see her back to her prime and for sale again, hence reason to sell as one.

So guys, let me know what you think the value is and in the mean time if you need any more info or if you want to see her or even buy her from me (this is not a for sale add, that going up when she’s on all fours soon) just let me know.

Cheers

Lewis

Thank you Rob for the estimate, was thinking around the 700-600 mark so not far off.

And no I wont be breaking her. Im not too fussed about making as much money as I can out of her. Would ideally like to sell her to someone on here as this community gave me so much so would like to give something back I guess.

The only things I will be selling separate are the upgrade parts I've bought; braided hoses, gaz shocks, alloys, and all the other bits I find in the garage.

Cheers

Lewis - im going through the process to get my Red Hot Mini back on the road....why dont you keep it and have a go at restoring when you can?  I was in the same situation...house saving, marriage, baby etc. Difficult situation!  But now I have got my business head on....soon as its done I will keep it for a bit then decide to sell on to someone who will take care of it.......may be.

I would love to keep her mate but I just cant. Ive gone down every possible route, used up all my excuses and it cant go on.

Its been sat for the best part of 2 years now and to be completely honest its been like that so long because I've moved on and completely lost all love in it.

Personally, I would get more joy out of it if I can get her into the hands of someone who is willing to put her right, get her in tip top condition and back to her former glory.

Cheers

Lewis.
