Hi Guys,

I have just cleaned & installed a CSK78 service kit for an HIF38 carb.

The carb & manifold was sold to me along with the engine I bought & was assured it was functioning prior to removal.

I thoroughly cleaned & installed the service kit following the SU instructions closely - filled the dashpot with 20W oil as instructed - but it has lost all the oil within 48hrs.

Have I missed something when servicing? or is there something seriously wrong with it?

The car has not been started yet as I am installing a new harness first.

Not familiar with SU's at all as this is my first Mini restore.

Regards

Si

If your overfilling it it will lose oil, if its sucking it all out it points to wear in the alloy housing to slide assebly

Hey KernowCooper,

Do you mean the suction chamber itself?

Would it be the chamber or the piston that would be the probable cause do you think - Best way to test which one I mean?

If its not overfilled yes, and they are a match pair if my memory serves me correct. Does it burn it all then ?

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply - been at the beach all day :o)

I haven't started the engine yet as I am doing the wiring at present - just filled the dashpot after servicing the carb - left it on the side overnight and noticed a small pool of oil on the bench.

Looks as though its nearly all emptied out when I removed the damper.

If the carb is not at the installed angle it will run out, i'd not be worrying until you have it installed
