After twenty four years I have finally bitten the bullet and bought another Capri. I wanted a 2.0GL in Tibetan gold but settled for an uber rare 1.6l in imperial red. It needs a fair bit of work but is solid in all the right places. Engine runs like a pig at the moment so that is first on the fiddle list.

I still hanker for a 3.0s , rare nowadays  and priced to match . I would settle for a 2.0s with the lovely essex in . Lovely burble to them .

I had planned to drop a 3.0 in but the more I look the more I realise how rare the 1.6l is. It's had GL seats fitted at some point but they need changing anyway. I have had about twenty different ideas in the day I have owned it! But I think it has to remain standard, it even has an original uncut dash with the radio.

Uncut dash!! Now thats rare! All the more reason to keep it standard.
I worked in a small independent garage in my late teens, and we had a 2.8 inj ghia come in as px. Body rough, but engine was ace. As it had tax and test, we used it for collecting parts, errands etc, and at 17, it was the best parts van we ever had!! Juicy tho :0)

I've always wanted a black 2.8i, but a mercury grey 90 spec rs turbo is higher up the list. One day. :whistling:

I nearly bought a 2.8i when I was 19. I was £200 short and my parents refused to lend me the cash. The experience of the other capris had been too much for them! I ended up with a 1.3 mk3 escort instead. Quite a difference!

had a silver MK3 2.0s - loved it, rebuilt the engine 4 sp box - janspeed manifold , different diff

dropped the nose a bit & different anti roll bar

was good - even in snow - very fast car - could scare a 2.8i (but would kill prop shafts - never found out why)

also had a 1.6l - not so good - boring after the 2.0s

my 2.0 also killed props, might have been my driving style though. I don't like the idea of a standard 1.6 but keeping the exterior standard and sticking something interesting under the bonnet could make a nice sleeper!

Has the leading edge of the bonnet rusted - the wing front edge - rear arch - all areas to keep an eye on

if you have to replace the head lights - they were for another car as well - we used to get them as the ford ones were £xpensive

(can't remember what car thou)

all ways got a slight shudder when accelerating hard (prop)

hope it gives you years of pleasure
