An amazing area you're moving to! I spent 3.5 years in Morayshire and loved it!
Thanks Steve, I do love it up that way and i'm very much looking forward to it! The Mini scene looks fairly substantial too.
**UPDATE**
Due to the lack of photos, i'm going to use this post to post some old photos i found of the car. My previous image storage website seems to have messed up my whole thread, so i'm now on Flickr.
UPDATES:
I was fed up looking at the Springalex horn push on my Motolita, so i modified a Morris horn push from a Mk1 wheel to fit, i think it looks stunning!
I also fitted some style of leather/vinyl bucket seats at this point, although these will swiftly be changed to Mk1 seats when the time comes.

Slow for an update so plenty to say, here goes.
So since the last update i did indeed move to Inverness, and now to a little place called Beauly.
I got in with the group Inverness Mini Owners Group (IMOG) - some of you may have seen them at IMM in Ireland last year, great friendly group.
Being part of their group i managed to get out on a few of their runs, i'll share some photos below - the Harvester run around Loch Ness, Cars and Coffee Inverness and also a brilliant trip to Eden Court theatre to watch the original Italian Job on the big screen!
Even made it onto BBC News :)

I also did the North Coast 500 in the Mini along with my friend in his Mk2 MX5 and my girlfriends F56 Mini Cooper S.
I also tried to teach my little brother that his iPad sucks, and classic cars rule

So now onto the updates
After summer i noticed my rear subframe was getting a bit tired - lots of surface rust. So along with all the other stuff i wanted to get done to the car i took it upon myself this winter to strip the rear subframe and basically replace everything. I've also sent my car off to a friend to re-do the sills back to the original Mk1 variant - the car has had dreaded oversills put on it at some point so we are waiting to see the damage done by this...
First off i ordered this lot from Minispares;
- Full braided hose kit
- New copper brake lines
- 1" spaced rear drums
- New refurbished radius arms from Minispares (couldn't be bothered trying to replace the bearings and shims on the old ones)
- Complete early rear subframe mounting kit
- Handbrake cables
- KYB shocks and all the relevant bits
[
First issue to overcome was the previous owners odd trunion mounting - a piece of threaded bar tac welded in place with a nut at the other end. Why people do this stuff i have no idea.
That swiftly got changed to the proper mounting pin and bushes.
Managed to get everything else together.
Once that was done, the subframe was mounted on the car - pain in the arse job with the space i had - then the car was picked up to get the sills done. That's where she is just now.
Bit more spaced out with the new drums. Can't wait to fit Cooper S front brakes too. Also going to either replace the wheels or at least fit new tires as i've not had the best feeling from these cheap ones currently fitted. Will either go A032's or A008's.
BUT i had something else delivered. A lovely 1275 turned up at my door, much to my girlfriends delight.
Not really how I wanted it to arrive, but it was okay never the less..
Obviously i'll be stripping most of the engine down and checking it first. Will also clean it up, paint it and replace a few bits too. So this is the project while the car is gone.
Sorry, i'm not very good at updates, i can never be bothered taking photos while i'm actually doing stuff. But as sporadic as my updates are, i'll be back at some point.

You have your brake back plates on the wrong sides.

Thanks for the positive comments all. It's not entirely original so I'm sure a few folk have things to say about it, but at the end of the day it was bought without the original engine etc so I'm just making it a pleasure to drive now.
You have your brake back plates on the wrong sides.
Cheers dude for noticing! I've actually been running them like that on both my Minis as I've never found any negative effects and i find it easier to adjust the drums with the adjuster at the bottom, I like to adjust the drums every couple of weeks to keep them tight. Let me know if there's any major reason you think it should be the other way though!

Quick poll for when the time comes... Original 60's blue (i actually believe this car is nearer a '61...), the current green or shall i go for pastel colour of some sort?

The handbrake cable must take tortuous route?

Hahaha, yes it does. That's the route i think i'll go down...
The handbrake cable must take tortuous route?
It's funny, i could imagine it being terrible, but from experience the handbrake feels really good. The route looks factory - once i have the car back i'll show you. The brackets are reversed too so the cable gets a nice line and good tension.
Sills
So i had my sills done. I realised that my "okay" sills were actually just oversills. It really annoying me that i couldn't run the chrome strip that goes along the seam from the front of the car to the back because i had about 3 body panels stuck together along the door line! Oversill, sill and doorstep. So i handed the car to a local mini enthusiast and had him fit the correct 4 flute sills, and inner sills. He did a great job, certainly better than anything i could do! He's a local on here, i believe he goes under the name AndyMiniMad.
Here's a few photos he took in the process.

Jolly good result and should keep the car going for a good few years to come! It's always nice when someone does a proper job, well done Andy!

Happy new year all, i thought i'd update my build thread just for personal use now that the build has gathered some momentum!
Annoyingly some of my old photos got lost, so i've tried to replace them with similar shots where possible. Motor for 2019 is to keep my photos saved somewhere proper, Flickr seems like it'll do the trick!
2018 ended in a good fashion, the Mini was painted by my friend - the colour chosen was Almond Green, one of my favourite colours. I opted to go without the typical white roof that the coopers had. Controversial choice, and it didn't work in my head.... but then when i saw it person i was blown away - I LOVE IT!!
Before that happened, i needed new doors. I stripped my old ones and low and behold the doors were CAKED in body filler along the bottom. Instead of fixing, someone has mended them and caused them to just turn to dust. It wasn't feasible to repair them, but i sourced two good doors.
What looks like an okay door..
Was hiding this underneath..
2x doors sorted. Not an easy task!! Maybe one day i'll treat the car to some brand new ones.. but at £600+ a pop that won't be anytime soon!
[
Onto paint..
Here's some photos from the process, Colin my friend did an amazing job. He painted it alongside his full time job, and he's put so much effort in sanding and preparing it. It seemed that the previous owner enjoyed using filler - and for what i can tell on the most part it wasn't even to hide anything! It was like the whole car had a skim of filler, maybe he got carried away on one corner and ended up doing the whole car just to make it look the same haha!
En route to Falkirk from Elgin - a fair old jaunt for the Mini!
And some stonechip for the rear valance
Then Colin got onto painting it, seeing these photos still got me .. excited .. but obviously dark light and photos don't do justice.
And then i was surprised by this turning up, my dad brought it up for me and i was just blown away when he arrived. Photo's don't do it justice!
More to follow..

In that time i managed to source a few parts that i'll be using later on in the build.
My favourite purchase to date, some Britax lap belts. I got away from using the bodged 3point seatbelts that had been fitted by someone prior. I welded up the top seatbelt mount before it got painted and i will be going down the lap belt route in the future.
I've also got a replacement Morris bonnet badge as my current one is cracked. Picked up a magnetic DTI gauge for doing the engine build later. I did also get a Mk1 steering wheel i'll refurbish later on, and decide which wheel i'll use. May investigate a Les Leston at some stage too..
Just because!!
So with the Mini back, i got round to refitting the windscreen (solo.. not easy!!!)
http://i.imgur.com/sjRhq6J.gifv
And also the quarter windows have been fitted
Nextup was removing the old 998 engine, to allow me to clean the engine bay, and remove the front subframe.
http://i.imgur.com/QKo0jzK.gifv
Tool for the job!
First ever engine removal, went successfully i would've said! We will see when i go to put the next engine back in :)
With the engine out, i'm now up to date. This weekend i got the subframe out, and stripped it down.
I haven't made ways on coating the parts yet. As i know the car will most likely be coming apart again in the next couple of years once i've bought a house and have my own garage, i'm going to be Kurusting the subframe and lower arms, and then simply using black hammerite. I know it's not the best solution, but it's cheap and easy for me at the moment.
All the nuts, bolts have now been removed and they will ALL be getting replaced on reassembly - so i know in the future nothing should seize, hence making future removal less daunting - especially now i've done it all once!
Next up on the agenda was tackling cleaning the bulkead and inside the engine bay. Trying to remove the clutch/brake master cylinders was a nightmare as i'm sure many of you know! Those damn split pins - these will be replaced with R pins on refitting.
This damn split pin!!!
At this point i stopped taking photos - the cylinders came off and i gave the bulkhead a good going over with wire brush drill bits. It's looking better already, i'm glad i removed the master cylinders as that area was really beginning to bubble with rust. I'll Kurust all over the bulkhead once i'm happy it's cleaned enough and then it will be primed and painted Almond Green. It wasn't my intention to have to paint the engine bay but with it so easy to access it would be rude not to.
I'm getting to the point of needing to order more bits too, next up on the list is:
- Drum to 7.5" disc conversion. This is a must for me, it will be really nice to replace all the components from the gearbox out.
-Adjustable tie bars
- 1.5° negative camber arms
- All new brake pipes from front to rear
- All the fixings for everything i've removed!!
- So plenty to spend and plenty to look forward to. Next weekend i will work on getting the engine bay painted and the subframe painted.
A couple of questions for everyone;
- How do i remove the panel around the hoses going to the heater matrix? I assume there is a nut inside behind the dash rail that i have to hold while undoing the bolts in the engine bay?
- Is it okay to run discs on the front on a single line brake system?
Here's until next time!
