The £5 makes you a TMF+ member, which gets you 7.5% discount on all your orders at MiniSpares and money off at lots of other places. I got my £5 back on my first minispares order, so in that respect it's totally worth it. Oh and it allows you to post for sale ads

It's not just to be able to post in the for sale and wanted section, get discounts at certain places. Once you've spent £85 in minispares you've got the £5 back.

At least it's not like some forums where you have to pay just to read the technical sections.
You only have to pay or contribute with posts to use sell stuff. If it's really a problem, use Gumtree.

The reason we started making the ads TMF+(or 150 posts) was mainly to cut down on the amount of classified issues we were having. People were joining up and taking advantage of members trust.
Initially we were just going to make it 150 posts only but then thought that new members may not want to wait till they make 150 posts. Since to sign up to tmf+ you need a paypal account then at least we have some traceability in the event that a new member causes an issue
Since the rule was introduced these problems have all but stopped.
Yes it can be frustrating to new members but that's the way it is and its not going to change.

Yes and due to eyesight injury and mental anguish we can now offer a counselling service run by the local Samaritans.
