I have fitted twin 1 1/4 SUs and a Maniflow LCB to my 1275GT. I was planning to retain the mechanical pump but need some advice. There is only approx. an inch or so between the fuel lines to /from the pump to the centre branch of the manifold. Is it safe to use braided petrol pipe close to the manifold. Alternative would be to fit an electric pump - do I have to do this? Thanks in advance

Thanks - I'm very close to the first start of a totally rebuilt engine. I was going to fill the carbs with a gravity feed from an old master cylinder just to try it out if I had to source an electric pump - I'll have a result in a day or so now - I hope!

I'm sure you know all this but remember to prime the oil pump and bed in the cam followers etc.

I have filled the oil pump and filter and will spin the engine with plugs out until I get oil pressure before running. I have installed a good MG metro cam with new minispares standard followers these were coated with Kent Cams red sticky lube - I'll hold about 2000 revs for a short while after starting to let them marry. I just hope that the needles are not too far out - I'll be using the default ignition timing of an Aldon Amethyst kit. Cam was timed at 106 degrees. I think I'm on top of most things - Only worry I have is the compression ratio could be on the high side - work to the head and HC pistons have been fitted. I've got a can of Shell 'best' for starters - if this is not good enough I'll have to fit a pricey head gasket.
