Sad day today, I've had a serous crash in Bob, my immaculate MPI Cooper Sp.

Driving home from work, normal day, normal drive, on a 50mph road i was doing 40/45 as he was overheating, the car in front for absolutely for no reason rams on his breaks and stops, no indicating, no warning, does an emergency stop.
I try to stop, but couldn't stop in time, so at the last minuet swerve up onto the smallest grass verge ever, still doing at least 35 as it was wet and i locked up. Hit a lamp post on this verge, flattened it, and the car rolled. Ended up on its roof, windscreen smashed, coolant, oil and petrol everywhere. Weirdly whilst being held upside down in my seat by the belt, my first reaction was to put on the hand brake.... funny how stuck into routines you get... anyway, The other car, seeing what he had caused booted it and ran off. I managed to open the door and undo the belt, luckily the neck breaker MPI air bag hadn't gone off.

All of this is backed up by 2 witnesses, one from a bussdriver behind who nearly ended up skidding into me!

The front was all smashed, the subframe bent badly where the lamp post had hit, the roof all dented and crumpled, front window smashed and fallen out, one door dented badly, A panels broken, bent back wheel, and the front wheels were almost touching the rear of the arch, one arch fallen off, and lots of scratches. On the plus side, the rear subframe is okay, the doors all opened fine, all of the windows but the front window is in tacked, and the inside of the car didn't deform at all, and I walked out without a scratch.

According to the police woman, if this had of been a modern car, id be dead. As modern cars would have tried to crumple around the lamppost, where as bob the mini just flattened it, and rolled. So bob definitely looked after me well that day, paying me back for all the thousands spent, hours of polishing, and care. I love him to bits and cant believe he is gone :'(

James.

First 5 pictures are from last weekend at Stanford hall. the final 2 are from last nights crash.

On the plus side, you can all now see all the work ive put into getting a rust free and perfect underside.

Sad news, the damage might not be that bad, get it rolled over, see what the extent is.

So sorry to hear this. Sounds like a total "crash for cash" by the scumbag. If ever there was a reason to drive with a dash cam ..... :(. I hope you can get it repaired.

1st off, its just a car the main thing is that you are all intact! Meaning that car is replaceble!!!

2nd off if you have vested so much in that car i would personally tuck him away in dry and do the hard work again... obviously it be harder work this time.

From the photos it looks like the rear is still decent the wheels are still on so realistically i would say you would need a bulk head repare = doable, steering rack = obtainable front glass = again obtainable at reaonable fees on here all the time! my guess you would need another engine... but again not too bad of an issues. i reckon it be worth the work with few new panels.

if you really want another mini then get one to run around in one and tuck this one away fro slow repare

Good luck!

So sorry to hear your sad story. What a bleedin' wally for slamming his brakes on like that.

As others have rightly said, as long as you're ok, thats what matters.

You may not feel like it at the mo, but it would be great to get him back on his wheels and then assess all the damage and see if he's repairable, he looked such a mint Mini in the first photos at Stanford Hall.

Good luck and I'm glad you're safe and well.

Steve.

If the doors shut fine i guess that's a good start against repairing it.
