So this weekend I took part in the kings Lynn to yarmouth mini run.
The routes there were incredibly fun.!!

However whilst down in yarmouth I caught up with some friends and family lost track of time.
I decided to go a simple way back to Cambridge down the new elverdon road then back on to the a14.

It was sooo boring. !!
I ended up with a head ache

The mini will happily do 70 though it is deafening, so I ended up sitting around 60 mph.....

How do you lot manage on these kind of drives ?
Lots off coffee stops ?
Comfier seats ?
Ear defenders lol ?

I must admit I actually enjoy driving my mini on motorways, yes its noisy and bouncy and a bit slow but I don't find it at all uncomfortable and it really is a sense I achievement to overtake much faster cars! You feel privileged to be on a motorway rather than its a right!

Yup the post L2B trip back from Brighton always gets me. The trip down there is great, as it's over two days, takes in a vatiety of different roads and then there's the run and the show to look forward to. The Sunday afternoon/ evening slog home you just want get over and done with though, so it's hour after hour of ear bleeding, motorway miles that rattle your fillings until they drop out !!

I must admit. I do love overtaking the modern cars at some points & also that weird feeling you get, Like it's illegal or something :)

The 2.7 final drive and revised seats were a blessing on the motorway in my MPI. I could sit happily at 70 with the radio on for hours.

It's a Mini. That's how they are. They weren't designed to offer premium soundproofing or comfort. Just cheap and cheerful motoring. Just turn up the volume and enjoy it.

They weren't designed for motorways.......like most other cars of that era, as the first M road be opened in the UK was the M6 Preston By-pass on the 5th December 1958, just before the Mini's 1959 launch.

A short film about British motorists and their cars being unaccustomed to Motorway driving from 1959 onwards.

Great big noise cancelling headphones that also have an aux input for my music. That's how I get through it, gives me splitting headaches otherwise.

One if mine is a 1275 auto, carb, on a motorway run at a constant 70, I get 43mpg, the engine has only done 12k from new.

I have straightcut drop gears in mine, no sound proofing other than carpet and the old falling apart sound on the bulkhead, the car is really loud but it's okay to cruise at 60 but the noisiest bit is the air intake as you can hardly hear the gears until you accelerate, but now the engines not working well.
