Just wondered how hard it is to fit a roof aerial, I think they look really cool !!, mini is almost ready for paint after many new panels, so thought better to drill any holes now, there is no glass but the headlining is still in place and is in good nick, how do you get the cable down the screen pillar. Any tips much appreciated. Mart.

I assume it goesactually in the screen pillar, on later mini's the screen washer pipe had to come from the back through the headlining and down the pillar, either run it down the pillar to the engine bay then back to the radio, or drill a hole somewhere near the bottom of the pillar for the areal cable and use a rubber washer to finish it off or something :)

It is not a hard job, just make sure you get the hole where you want it ( measure 10 times, drill once !!! ).Move the roof lining away from the point you are going to drill the hole then, drill a pilot hole much smaller than you need then step up in drill sizes until you get just enough clearance to fit the threaded part of the aerial through the hole then thread the locking nut up the lead and tighten it up securely, a bit of silicone sealant under the original aerial seal does help.  To get the aerial lead down the screen pillar i would use some thick wire ( mig welding type is good stuff), attach one end of the wire to the aerial lead with insulation tape then thread the other end of the wire down the pillar, pushing the wire down and at the same time slowly pulling it out of the bottom of the pillar.

You should be able to hide the lead behind the roof lining and in the recess above the screen.

Take your time and it should all come together.
