Couple of pics of my podifold install. Nearly finished now. One thing I can't decide is to keep my side exit rc40 or get a centre exit.attachicon.gif20150916_220327.jpgattachicon.gif20150916_220401.jpgattachicon.gif20150916_220432.jpg

I would advise to swap out the foam filter for something that actually filters.....
What's wrong with the sock filter?

Ever thought of water injection? That's the route I think i'll be taking, with a bit of meths (after ive got things running that is!)

why not just go for methanol?
What kit do you use and how is it installed. Methanol scares the bejesus out of me, it does produce good results even if it's just assisting with knock protection.
I had been looking at the aem kits - the controller would sit nicely on the dash next to my aem afr gauge. Think I may be able to link it to my aldon amethyst.

I ran one until I found out it was letting "stuff" through, which I found in the mouth of the throttle body. I run a k&n now and it's not happened since.

use devils own kits...http://www.methanol-injection.co.uk/

easy peasy to instal, mount the bottle, mount the pump, drill inlet and tap for nozzle, wire the controller and pump up. permanet live to the pump and controller, neg from pump to controller, switched live to the controller. tee the controller into boost side and bob's your uncle.

where are you in chester? am only up on the wirral so can possibly pop to you or you're more than welcome to come over and look at a fitted kit.

Right, so today i've had my car over to the dyno to have it fettled and see what power its putting out. We did a run first without air on the intercooler and then runs after that were done with cool air flowing through it. Dyno results were 98 hp at the wheels and 120hp at the flywheel. I'm pretty impressed and happy with this as it's a 15hp increase over the suck through setup that i was previously running. I think the things that are limiting me ultimately are the fact that im running dizzy and carb. The intercooler i'm running as well isn't the biggest and would probably benefit by upgrading to a better sized front mounted unit. Next step i believe would be megajolt to get the ignition spot on. Either way it pulls like a train from low revs all the way through to 7k at peak boost which is 10psi. Really happy with the Podifold setup and can't thank Jon enough for his help and info.

Nice to see these carb set-ups coming together and some encouraging results from Chappb.

Unfortunately I'm a bit stuck with my own fuel injected set-up at the moment. I've got a problem getting the engine to run smoothly which means I can't get it mapped properly and still haven't got any final bhp/torque figures to shout about.

The issue I'm having is that cylinder 3 is running rich all the time which is causing a misfire, usually under load and more noticeable at lower revs. I've done a lot of searching but struggled to find anyone with a similar problem. So far I've tried:

  • Swapping the positions of the fuel injectors
  • Replacing the fuel injectors for new
  • Replacing the spark plugs
  • Swapping the positions of the HT leads
  • Replacing the HT leads
  • Replacing the coil pack
  • Compression test (190psi, 180psi, 180psi, 190psi)
  • Replacing the head gasket, old one was fine though
  • Replacing the inlet/exhaust gasket, old one was fine though
  • Completely replacing the cylinder head with one re-worked and vacuum tested by AC Dodd
  • Checking and re-checking the valve gap
  • Taking it to RSTuning and EFI-parts who both conclude it's not a mapping issue
  • Speaking to Specialist Components who confirm it's not their ECU

Nothing I've ever done has ever made the problem go away or move it to another cylinder and before someone inevitably suggests it's to do with the shape/air flow of the Podifold or the fact that one side of the Podifold is getting hotter than the other or something like that...

podifold_sc_kit.jpg

...I've actually put the Specialist Components kit back together on a standard manifold, run it as intended and I still have the same problem.

I think i've tried/tested/replaced just about everything I can now and the next step is to remove the engine, pull it apart and see what's going on inside.

Shame to hear you're still having engine issues Jon. Have you done a cylinder leak down test? Have you checked the valve lifts are equal?

I think you can be confident that after your investigations the fuel and spark are fine. So i would focus on air at this point. A worn cam wouldn't show up on a compression test so get a dial gauge on there and check cylinder three lifts against the others.

Valve lift's been checked too Chris with no big difference on 3.

Hmmm, in that case what makes you think number three is running rich? Fouled plug?

I have seen oil control ring failures causing plug fouling and misfire although passing leak down and compression checks.

Scratching my head.

It looks like it could be machined to fit injection later? Is the casting now the same as the injection one?

Yeah, spot on. One casting does both versions and it's how it's machined determines whether its for carb or injection use.

A carb one can be sent back to us at a later date and made into an injection one but not the other way around.

Sounds good. I guess it reduces cost too. Any progress with your engine? Did you find the issue?

It's stripped and I'll be rebuilding it in the new year.

I didn't find much to be honest. There was some suspect wear on the cam lobe and follower for the intake on cylinder three and I've got the exact same problem others have found with the turbo oil pump:
