I'm still waiting to find out how well it performs with a carb though.

I'm interested to know the results as well, as the potential build is predicated on the use of a carb.

Just looked at the logistics of the inlet, I don't think it could be fitted along side a brake servo.

yep, you can't have it with a brake servo. You don't need servos anyway!

In your opinion.

You'll just have to do some leg exercises...

I've already driven a mini without a servo and I really didn't like it. Felt like i was going to put my foot through the floor just to get it to stop on track.

kind of makes the whole job a lot more involved too. CBA with removing the servo.

to remove the servo is what? 3 bolts plus a split pin and a clevis pin..... its not hard. Besides you can get remote servos :)

I stand corrected. If it's that easy, I'm excited.

You have to change the peddle box as well. Which is the awkward bit. All do-able

Sounds more like crap brakes to me. With decent pads (green stuff)and discs (vented, grooved or drilled)there's no comparison (in favour of no servo)-I am talking 7.5 inch cooper s discs though proper brake feed back which is lost with a servo!
Imo of course!

Yup, big changes here at Podifold HQ.

I'm working on a new manifold that mounts a 52mm throttle body to the intake side of the supercharger and, along with some modifications to the existing manifold, allows the use of a stock BMW Mini by-pass valve in place of a dump valve.

The new configuration is as near as possible identical to how BMW did things. The reasons are:

  1. Smoother running. Without going into a long explanation theres an issue running an atmospheric dump valve with the current fuel injected system that causes the engine to momentarily run lean when the throttle is increased (n.b. this wouldn't be a problem with the carb set-up though).
  2. Supercharger whine's awesome until it's your daily drive and it's screaming at you constantly on the motorway! I'm hoping this'll quieten it down a bit.
  3. I can do away with the ridiculous bonnet bulge I have at the moment for the air filter.
  4. The new manifold and throttle body combination allows an IACV (Intake Air Control Valve) to be fitted to help with cold starts and maintaining a steady idle.

Things are going really well but the design's already changed slightly from that last picture as the throttle body/air filter need to be mounted even lower to clear a standard bonnet. Coming up with a complete package that'll fit in a round nose without any major bodywork or ancillary changes has always been the biggest challenge.

Glad you took a look at bmw's setup its where you went wrong first time round.

iirc the bmw mini doesn't boost at idle it uses the by pass valve then when you start driving the valve shuts and away you go boosting (y) all good fun

Keep at it dude, I'm getting more and more interested now

Steve

After finding out the foundry I was using had gone into administration and laid everyone off I've finally sorted a new place and got a set of manifolds back for the fuel injection system.

The inlet now mounts the throttle body and the air filter under the bonnet without any modifications and the main manifold has a mounting for the BMW by-pass valve.

I'm hoping to get both of these machined and fitted in the next few weeks.

That's looking awesome. Looks almost factory. Now things are a bit more complex will you be selling full kits? Are you still using the SC throttle body?
