Just bought a 92 1275 spi
It seems pretty stock but has twin handle bar back box and a k&n panel filter.
Where are the quick wins for a few more horses??

Yor restricted on the SPI to what you can do, you already have a panel filter, maybe one of the SPI owners can chip it once they see this.

as above - make sure its in good serviceable condition
an lcb is the next stage, if there isn't one fitted already
after that, without removing the engine, is a worked head, your looking at around 500 for that
if you want to remove the engine then a cam change would be the way to go
or if money is tight then lose weight from the car

IMO, keep the stock manifold on Injection minis, there's nothing wrong with it, LCB's place the lambda so it only sample the outer two cylinder, which can cause rich running.
Give it a good service, when they're in good shape they go really well, when they are poorly maintained this is when they start to fail...
Shame you can't tag people in these posts.... but Badboytunes has a mildy tuned spi, and the engine is a peach...

that's a good point guessworks
the specialist components lcb has a lambda boss on the Y piece and I turned a boss up and welded it to a maniflow lcb

I spoke to my dad (mot inspector).
He reckons it'll go through mot with a decat pipe cus of it's age. He says most of the '92 models won't find an exact vin match so it'll test as though it's got no cat anyway.
Is it worth a decat and full exhaust system on it? Much difference on power??
I also read somewhere the twin pipes actually reduce power and it would be better off with single side exit pipe?
I've serviced it (I run a car garage) and it's running really well.
Have dropped some weight by kicking the missus big ass out already!

Whip out the old bitumen insulation on the floor. There are a few pounds to save there.
