I'm thinking about getting a sw5 for my 1275 mg metro engine. Anyone got any advice. Is it worth while. The car is really only a weekend toy occasional autosolo use.
Thanks :)

I have one fitted to our weekend toy. 1275, light head work. Drives superb and pulls well. Had some nice comments on how it goes .

with regards to a comparison to other cams, I cant answer that but, if you want an answer re is it worth it, Id say yes as it gives good grunt

Isn't the sw5 very similar to the mg cam if it is an mg engine you have?

I'm not sure kind of why I'm asking really. I'm only thinking of getting one as I've been offered a new one very cheap

If cheap i'd inspect the cam for lobe wear

The SW05-07 came fitted to my car. It really is a torque-monster - I love it. It'll pull from 1500rpm through to about 5k where it starts running out of go.

If you already have a MG Metro engine I'd not expect big gains over what you have now, IMO it will be very simular and because there is so much involved in changing the cam I'd wait untilit freshen up time and do a full rebuild.

AC Dodd suggested to my mate that an sw5 will give noticeable gains over the mg metro cam. Bags and bags of torque.

That is my plan. Get all the bits together and have a rebuild freshen next year.

The Sw5-07 is much more average torque than the mg metro cam. Pulls harder lower down and about th same top end as the MG metro cam.

I dunno about toques ect and figures.... But, we dyno'd 70bhp. Not sure of torque figure but it will happily light up an inside tyre given the chance ;)
