[Fire shell]

Hi all

I have removed water pump today whilst stripping down a purchased , never used since rebuilt engine. Every part spotless and nearly all new or reconditioned- until I removed the water pump.

Behind there INSIDE the block it appears a bit rusty on the REAR of the piston walls, and a few flaky bits lying in the bottom just inside where the water pump attaches.

Should this be a concern ??, sorry if this sounds daft. Just my first ever engine strip.

Do I need to completely strip and have some form of dipping process (ie acid dip??) or can I flush out myself.

Yep the inside tends to be a big rusty what with all the water in there.

If it has been sat for a long time with just water in there it can get quite rusty.

Give it a flush out before fitting new pump and change the water a few times over the next weeks of use to get the crud out.

Back flushing the rad would not be a bad idea either.

Don't forget to add antifreeze this helps reduce corrosion as well as stopping the engine freezing.
