Unacceptable Quaife

engine suspension

Best Answer mini13 , 25 October 2014 - 10:59 AM

an LSD will higlight any suspension issues, so you may want to go over the suspension setup, especially corner weights, and anything that might be flexing.

the Quaife is one of the more drivalble LSD's, the plate diff's cab be a lot more grabby, and the JKD cam and Pawl diff is apparently truely horrendus in a mini.

what is your set up? wide wheel's?

The wheels are 14" standard dish, but spaced out about 1.5" each side.
The steering geometry is correct.
.

Three things here.

Standard 14" wheels? What are these then? What ET? What width? Minis never had 14s so you will have to help.

Why 1.5" spacers? Lose them they will not be helping one little bit.

You say it is correct. For what? See wheel info above. And then there is your suspension. What is it? Standard Mini rubbers? Stiffer rubbers? Rose jointed?

Lowered? Raised?
Tyres treaded? Slicks?
What hubs?

Sounds like set up issues to me.

I have a quaife diff, was in a 1430 race motor. When I first drove it I found it hairy, but you get used to it. It does take some muscle tho.

Last year I did a Tarmac motorkhana at the nz mini nationals, bet everybody lncluding the ex nz champion in his moke. In courses like the ever increasing circles I could just wind the power in and go for it, the diff was magic.

Havnt circuit raced with it yet ( blew the motor up after the hillclimb the next day).

My brother has a plate diff, and a friend another quaife, they both have standard steering wheels to help hang on.
