Hi,

At the very begining of what might be a long project, due to family and work comitments, I'm sure anyone with a baby knows what I'm on about!

Photo below is the 71 clubman in question, needs lot of work, the black stone chip around the bottom is hiding filler and rust! Have started stripped rear end down and started on the rear corners, but will update with photo's when I get chance.

Don't think will change much, but not sure about the fake wood stripe down the side that might have to go! or I wear flares and grow big side burns when driving it! lol

Great job, keep the pics coming. I've just bought a 78' Clubman estate which is rotten in the same places as yours.

I'm sure most are rotten in the rear corners as it seems to be a bit of a bad designed area, there is a gap on the inside rear corner and if water gets down there will just sit there rotting it away. Will have to make sure get sealant down there on rebuild.

Managed to get some work done on it today, pics below of what managed, not huge amount just cutting the rust out of the other corner, as you can see not much left of it after done that! but nice to finish on seeing part of the panel back on even if just held on with skin pins!

Update for the week, the very little that I have managed to do this week, make a start on the inner rear corner, made the little corner plate as per photo below, this is going to be one slow project at this rate!

I managed to get a bit more work done today, managed to weld on that inner corner,

15815322855_0e0c7faeac.jpg

make and weld on the right hand side corner inner closing section, not going all the way around as the rear closing panel will close of the corner(if that makes sense, it does in my head!)

15816883872_696f1bf428.jpg

cut the rest of the rear valance off and clean the edges up, each end of the rear closing panel has gone so will be needed to be made up, did think about getting a new rear closing panel, but they cost about £40 and would still need to mod it as there's only none genuine ones out there.

15816879312_d4da91318b.jpg

weld the left hand outer corner on

and finally finish by treating the inside of the rear valance, with a good coating of rust treatment, cling film and leave to do its job.

Just need to clean all them welds up, it's good to see some progress, :D

Managed to get a few hours in today, but only managed to do other corner closing section, welded the rear valance together, offered it up and pulled corners out where needed. Nothing exciting still stuck on this rear end!

Managed to get a bit more done today, just sorting out the closing valance, had to make the corners up and weld them on.

Started the day like this each side.

Then finished the day like this, still needs the welds cleaning up but thought would spare the neighbours the noise as getting late!

Im currently trying to rebuild the rear end on my 75 clubman, its got the same problems as yours, but ive not even started yet. have you  purchased a panel for the lower quarter panel, or made your own up?
