Done a few more bits and bobs over the last couple of weeks, I've sorted out the rear facing gearbox mounts, already had a hole at one side of the subframe so only need one hole drilling, I've marked it up and will drill it when the engine is back out.
I've done some more experimenting with filtration options, I tried out the air box along with a K&N cone filter, but wasn't happy with it, would have to be quite some way over to the left (or the right as you look at the photo) and still tight up against the inner wing....
So the filter went back to Amazon and I ordered a new backplate, 60mm ITG sausage, some grommets and o rings. Grommets are to fit a 50mm ID hole but I had to cut a 53mm hole to be able to fit the ram pipes into them, o rings either side lock them on nice and solid and should provide a good seal. Also cut a slot to fix the air temp sensor.....
I cleaned up and painted the brake distribution valve, this was quite a mess and quite rusty....
Next up the wiper motor so I can complete more of the dry build, pulled it apart, wasn't too bad, case was rusty but gear and motor in good condition but park switch dead and brushes a bit worn....
So rust removed and thoroughly cleaned and degreased including the rack (which took some time!), I've painted the case and replaced the brushes, park switch, wheel boxes, screws and bolts (replaced with stainless)...
And finally today I knocked up a bracket to re-position the throttle cable mount, it's a piece of 6mm thick 60mm x 60mm stainless steel angle cut to size and into a U shape and holes drilled to match the mount on each side so it now sits hanging downwards but exactly in line with the cam on the throttle body.
It seems to work well, it wants bending outwards (towards the front) at the bottom so the cable goes directly into the tube, it's at a slight angle as it is but otherwise I think this should work, time will tell of course!
