Hi, I'm half way through an audio install, and been thinking of putting a second battery in mini just for the audio gear. Has anyone done this?
What are your thoughts?

Cheers

I've only used it when I had a system pushed out well over 3kw. Sub amp alone pulled 120amps at full bore.

So anyway if you really need a second battery you can use a AGM or gel battery and put it on in its side in the spare wheel well.

If pure power is what your want then wire them in Parallel, this is super simple to do send will give you double the amp hour output ( if the batteries are the same).

If you always want power to start the car and a single battery for the audio then you will need a spilt charging kit.

BUT before you do any of this you should be upgrading the battery's own power supply, namely the Alt and the big 3 cables (Engine ground, Line from Alt to battery and Battery ground).
The grounds as they are short can be 4awg the main power run back should be 2awg if not 0awg.
If you are serious about the audio and two batteries then your going to need at least a 100 amp alt to power it all...

Thanks a lot ruckus!

The system isn't mega, just a subtle JL install. (post 7 on link below is what I've gone for)
http://www.theminifo...92492-ice-help/

Still not too sure whether to go for a second battery just for the audio.

Just don't want to come to the mini after a night shift and the bugger doesn't start lol

I'm new to all this audio stuff so... :P

Split charging kit sounds like what I'm after. Is that with 2 or just the single battery?

Ruckus, hope you could help.

Am I correct in thinking wire in photo below is to connect the sub to the amp. If so, does it matter which one goes into + and which one in -

Yep haha sorry I'm a complete noob with ICE. Does it matter whether it's the gold cable in the -/+ terminal and vice versa?

So I'm guessing it is used for connect amp to sub?

Found it with a load of old ice gear I ripped out of an old car before I sold it

Edit: I mean the +\- terminals on the amp/sub.

Cable is cable, as long it's the correct guage for the power it will handle and YOU know what colour is - and + it's all good.

What guage is the cable by the way ?
