might just leave the car where it is then! i can drop the subframe, and leave it under the car! I have seen magnum boot and seat repair panels, are they that bad a fit?

Most Magnum panels require some work to get a decent finish to be honest no matter what they are. Even Heritage require some tinkering with to get spot on.

Unfortunately with minis nothing is exactly bolt on panel wise as they were all adjusted at the factory especially doors. Repair panels are what they are so can be a bit hit or miss. Don't fret about it though as there is always ways and means to get the fit right.

Cheers, i am on a very tigh budget now (especially after discovering this additional rot), I think i will get the magnum repair sections, but the subframe/arch mount, bump stop reinforcement panel and closing panel will be genuine. Will phone m-machine and see how much it will cost me!

Morning all, and happy new year to you.

After a few weeks of not really doing anything on the mini, i went outside a few nights ago and dropped the subframe. unfortunately, i found more rust. the boot floor near the rear lights/valance is gone, the paint was holding it together. the rest of the boot floor seems ok, its just in both corners. It also looks like the subframe support panel is shot.

I was thinking that the boot repair panel (the 10" one) would do, but would i have to remove the rear valance to repiar the boot?

thanks

You would most likely need to remove the valance to repair it properly but that is not a bad thing as you will probably find more rot in the valance and also in the closing panels.

I hear you sigh but it's best to get it all done at once. You won't want to be re-doing it all in 6 months time because of more rot spreading.

a valance is cheap and easy to replace anyway

Looking back at the start of this post, it looked like such a mess, and was way beyond both what i expected and my skills!

So thanks again for all the useful advice!

Looking great. I think I might have given up at the sight of so much rust, but it never ceases to amaze me how you Mini guys (I am restoring a Saab) persevere with your cars. Well done.

Hi, i know this is a long time since you posted last, but if on the off chance anyone sees this who knows what they are doing. Any tips and tricks ? i am a complete novice at all things welding and metal, and i am currently looking at doing these exact same repairs except on both sides (eek!!)

Thanks, Rob
