Looking at the first photos I didn't see that coming !

It's amazing what a paint job can hide

Good luck with it !

Neither did I!!

Gutted really i paid good money for the car, the engine lasted 2000miles before issues and now this.

Would have be better off starting from scratch with a old rusty shell!

At least you'll know the car inside out by the time you've finished it

Borrowed the work recovery truck day so I could start making some bracing, the poor old car looks sorry for itself at the moment

Still a work in process but should stop the shell moving when I starting cutting holes in it!

Also started cleaning the waxoyl off! Horrid stuff! Then went over with a wire wheel to try work out the best plan of attack?

Nice Mini, not so nice dodgy repairs. new Flitch Panel and home made upper behind the Scuttle required, funny that's what I'm doing at the moment on my 1982 HLE 1000 :-)

Good luck

And now I've removed both subframes and the boot floor is not looking healthy!

Made a start today, repaired both shock mounts

Now this is the first time I've ever attempted anything like this or used a welder, but basically I cut the rot out of the inner wing and support panel behind, cleaned all the rust up in that area then used vacant rust converter inside the crossmember section followed by cavity wax spray. Then welded 2 repair panels in one over top of the over then ground the welds down.

I guess this should be fine but correct me if I'm wrong and before I go any further

Chris

Not updated this for a while, but ive finished the welding on the shell.

Ended up replacing both floor halves , correct outer sills, seat crossmember, flitch panels, rear heel board repairs and a small patch repair to the boot.

I now also have a 1.8 vvc K series clubman project on the go

so this car will remain A- series with be painted bright red with a dark grey roof, archless and these standard wheels on it

Wow! that's going to be bright - even though it was a bit of a shock the shell wasn't too bad then?
Back on the road for what we optimistically call Summer?
