It was entered as a 1959 107E Ford Prefect driven by Alan Mann's son Henry and has also been driven by Mini racing chef James Martin, not sure of spec.

The HSCC will allow side-valve 100E models to be fitted with pre-crossflow engines of up to 1300cc.

(The 107E had a reworked 100E body with the new 997cc overhead valve engine, four-speed gearbox and 'banjo' style rear end from the Anglia 105E, produced to offer a four door model from 1959-61)

So one would guess a 1340 5-main-bearing block, sleeved back to 1300 cc would be allowed. With twin 38 or 40 DCOE Webers, a race head and Cosworth cam it would go very well. Suspension would be easy to make like a Mk.1 Escort and presumably front discs are allowed. That would be a competitive and attractive car.

When I first started rallying I did an event in a 100E with an OHV conversion (Aquaplane ??), 4-speed gearbox and twin 1.5" SU's. It went very well but the drum brakes were not very good (from memory).

I also remember Aquaplane for their Ford tuning parts.......the company appears to be still operating under that name......also some of their less well known Mini tuning parts and cylinder head are shown on the Mk1 Performance website here:-

I nearly rolled one of those whilst doing a road test for a friend who owned one when a dog ran into the road :D .
